The end of an era is coming forFinal Fantasy 14, as the conclusion to theDawntrailexpansion will be released very soon. The Patch 7.3 official trailer was posted by theFinal Fantasy 14YouTube account, andthe update will release on August 5and will conclude theDawntrailstoryline (viaEurogamer). The update, titledThe Promise of Tomorrow, will also set up story beats to come for the post-expansion storyline that will come in additional patches until the release of the next major expansion.

The initial reception toDawntrailwas mixed at best, with many fans praising the game’s new dungeons and locations, but criticizing the overuse of new protagonist Wuk Lamat and the generally unimpressive story. Theexpansion has gotten better over timewith Patches 7.1 and 7.2, but the lack of meaningful endgame content, as well as a lack of timely improvements for bigger issues like housing, has rubbed some fans the wrong way.
Additionally, Yoshi-P recently agreed that thequality ofFF14has been sufferingas of late and issued an apology for its state. Story isn’t typically the focus point of MMOs, butFF14’s unique approach to its world and contentresonated with many people who may not have originally been interested in playing an MMO. Following the pattern established with pastFF14expansions,future patches will be setting up the storylinefor the next major expansion, which could release in 2026 or 2027.Dawntrailwas stated to be the start of another 10-year-long story, likeA Realm Rebornwas before it, so the post-Dawntrailpatches should give us a good sense of what to expect in the game’s future expansions.
Patch 7.3 will also be adding the new alliance raid, a new deep dungeon, a new regular dungeon, a new trial, and all the usual major patch content that comes withFF14updates. Some fans are probably excited for the content, while others may be more interested inDawntrailending and what the future ofFinal Fantasy 14will bring. Still, it’s a great MMO that has gone through a lot of growing pains, and new content is always exciting.
