Instagramusers are blasting the popular app’s new update, warning that the new features may put users' safety at risk. The update went live on August 6 and added a location-sharing feature, similar to the oneSnapchat has had for years. The idea behind the new addition is to allow users to share content locations and discover new locations for entertainment, dining, and more, but many seem to be afraid of its implementation.

Meta insists the option is off by default and users have to opt in to turn it on, but nonetheless, users aren’t happy the feature exists at all, with some, likeThe Immortalon X, saying it can"potentially put you at risk."

Easily Viewable & Shareable Locations

The main concerns users seem to have with the Instagram Map are thelack of privacy and the ease of access for children and other users who accidentally turn it on. While the settings can be adjusted to whom users share their location with, such as just friends or select friends, the idea that someone can find your location if it’s on has brought concerns about stalking, hackers, and other criminals.

There is also a setting for parents to check if their children are sharing their location, and they can get a notification if their child turns the feature on. The Instagram Map feature is optional and off by default, but if users accidentally turn it on or want to turn it off,it can be removed by doing the following:
