It might not come as much of a surprise thatInjustice 2did so well, as the first game in the franchise –Injustice: Gods Among Us– was well received, and few other games were launching in May to compete with it.Preywas one of few other major releases that month, and it came in at 5th in NPD Group’s data, which didn’t include digital sales for it and a number of other games.

The sales ofInjustice 2are impressive given that it came out halfway through the month, and extra impressive as gained it 9th place in sales for 2017’s new games. However, the lack of digital sales on some games somewhat deflatesInjustice 2’svictory in May, as those were factored in for the NetherRealm Studios fighting game, giving it a boostMario Kart 8 Deluxedidn’t get.

Given thatInjustice 2includes online multiplayer, the sales figure is great news for fans of the game. A bigger install base means more people to play with, and will also likely encourage  NetherRealm Studios to ensure ample support for the game.

For some, sales of the game probably won’t factor much into their decision to buy theInjustice 2or not. After all, thecharacter rosteris a pretty important factor for a game in a universe with such a rabid fan-base.

Injustice 2is available now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
