The cozy open-world exploration and dress-up gameInfinity Nikkiis getting bombarded by negative reviews following several unpopular decisions by developer Infold. When the free game first launched in December of last year, it was met with overwhelmingly positive responses and feedback. Fans loved everything from the game’s gorgeous designs and presentation to thesurprisingly engaging story.

In the past few weeks, though, the community’s feelings toward the game have plummeted due to several changes made by Infold that have left players unhappy with the direction the game is going. As a result, the title has reached a new low onSteam, officially hitting 52% negative reviews (out of about 5,000), pulling the game’s overall rating down to Mixed. Discussions on Reddit, like the one started byBananaCherryBiscuits, note that the number of negative reviews might be even higher due to the prevalence of positive reviews allegedly left by bots.

Player Complaints Continue To Stack Up Against Infinity Nikki

From Unfair Gachas To Story Overhauls

Earlier this month,Infinity Nikkireleased its newest update, theSea of Stars, which added new content and outfits like previous updates. Unlike previous updates, through, this one also included an 11-piece outfit, whichmade acquiring the full outfit much more difficult—and costly—than usual. This was the first in a series of updates that arecausing fans to lose faith in Infoldto deliver a wholesome game that’s fair and created with the community in mind.

Fans quickly discovered thatInfold had also completely replaced the beginning of the game, switching out the previous intro for theSea of Starsintro. This change caused outrage in the fanbase as most felt the previous intro did a better job of introducing the characters. More concerningly, the change removed an entire character and outfit from the game without letting its fans know.

To make matters worse, Infold resolved an error that allowed players to claim double the amount of even currency by removing the currency from fans' accounts, leaving some players in the redthrough no fault of their own. Whenthe community began openly criticizingInfinity Nikkiand its developer, any mentions of a “boycott” were removed from the game’s social media accounts. The community refused to be silenced, organizing a “girlcott” instead, the effects of which have now extended to the game’s Steam reviews, with most recent reviews bashing the developer for its actions.

Infold’s Silence Is Damning

There Is No Cozy Gaming Without The Cozy Community

Cozy and wholesome games often rely on a similarly cozy and wholesome community so by failing to support the game’s fanbase, Infold may be dooming its title. Discussions on Reddit and Discord areturning to the developer for a response to their complaints and feedback, but the developer has stayed mostly silent on the recent controversies.

AsInfinity Nikkiheads for a “Negative” review score just amonth after its release on Steam, it’s becoming harder to ignore players' concerns. The Reddit community encourages players to continue reporting bot reviews on Steam, to make it even clearer that the fanbase is unhappy.
