Given the success ofHouse, it would be difficult for anything to replace it, butNBC debuted a new series in 2024 that should intrigue lovers of the original show. The Fox medical drama premiered in November 2004 and ran for eight seasons, with its finale airing in May 2012. Over the course of its run,Househad its ups and downs, but when it was good, it was really good, which is why it holds up to this day. New fans are still discoveringHouse. When it’s all over, though, one can’t help but look for similar TV series.

Hugh Laurie received six Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Dr. Gregory House inHouse.

Houseis highly regarded because of its cast, writing, unique characters, the show’s medical accuracy(which is still debated by some due to the reckless doctors who never get fired, but it’s a drama, after all), and more. Most notably, Hugh Laurie’s performance as Dr. Gregory House gives the series a leg up over other shows. As a result, many have been drawn toHouseover the years, accounting for its long-standing popularityand desire to find similar productions.

Why Zachary Quinto’s Brilliant Minds Is The Perfect House Replacement Watch

Brilliant Minds Has A Lot In Common With House

Brilliant Mindspremiered in September 2024 on NBC and isthe bestHousereplacement TV show. The two works are medical dramas featuring related settings and premises (aka they take place in a hospital andcenter around an intelligent and eccentric doctor who leads a group of interns in solving unusual cases). Laurie’s House and Zachary Quinto’s Dr. Oliver Wolf also share much in common. They are both geniuses who are quite unusual and unorthodox. Plus, like House, Wolf suffers from a condition — prosopagnosia. The one difference is that Wolf is a neurologist, while House is an infectious disease specialist and diagnostician.

So, if one lovesHouse, the odds are that they will likeBrilliant Minds, as well. They aren’t completely the same, which wouldn’t be much fun, but they share enough similarities that warrant their comparison. The good news is thatBrilliant Mindsseason 1 only has 13 episodes, meaningnew viewers can easily catch up in time for season 2.

Can Brilliant Minds Run As Long As House Did?

The Odds Are Low

Unfortunately, one shouldn’t expectBrilliant Mindsto achieve the same success asHousedid during its eight-year run. The medical drama has only released one season, and despite its positive reviews (it holds an 88% score onRotten Tomatoes), its same-day ratings aren’t anything spectacular.Brilliant Mindsseason 1 averaged 4.9 million viewers, placing the show in the middle of the pack of NBC dramas during the 2024–2025 season. It reportedly collected over 30 million views across all platforms, though, which is a good sign. Whatever the case, NBC evidently believed in the series enough to renew it.

PerhapsBrilliant Minds' audience will grow as the episodes continue, which would give it a better chance of matchingHouse’s longevity. However, only time will tell if the NBC medical drama has what it takes to last eight or more seasons. For now, fans can be grateful that season 2 is on its way.
