After watching theCelebrity IOUseason 10 premiere starring the Property Brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott, and guest star actress Rachel Brosnahan, I feel that the backlash against them and the show is deserved amid the cancellations of other fan-favorite series. In June 2025,HGTV axedFarmhouse Fixer,Married to Real Estate,Izzy Does It, andBargain Block, followed byBattle on the Beachin July.

HGTV fans were outraged by these decisions, stating that the Property Brothers already have too many series on the network, and that the premises of their shows are too repetitive and boring.

Celebrity IOU-1

HGTV then postponed Drew and Jonathan’s two upcoming series,Chasing the WestandDon’t Hate Your House.Chasing the Westwas set to premiere on July 10, the day after theCelebrity IOUseason 10premiere, but has been postponed until July 30.Don’t Hate Your Housewill now premiere later this year, rather than on July 30.

At first, I was shocked by all of the negativity directed at Drew and Jonathan by HGTV viewers because I’ve been a fan of them and their home makeover shows for a long time. However, HGTV fans’ rejection of them made me watchCelebrity IOUfrom a more critical perspective, and I now feel that I was wrong, and I understand why people are lashing out becausethis lackluster season 10 premiere was a mistake.

The Celebrity IOU Season 10 Premiere Was Repetitive & Boring

Even Rachel Brosnahan Couldn’t Save The Show

TheCelebrity IOU season 10premiere featuredThe Marvelous Mrs. Maiselactress Rachel Brosnahangifting a new kitchen and dining room to the parents of her friend of 15 years. However, even the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress couldn’t save the show from falling into the same predictable pattern that it’s had since its debut in 2020.

I was shocked by how bored I was during the episode, andhow similar it was to almost every other installment of the series. It started off with the Property Brotherssurprising Rachel’s friend by unexpectedly ringing her doorbell, while Rachel hid on the street, which is something we’ve seen several times before on the show.

Then, the show repeated the same formula of every otherCelebrity IOUepisode, with Rachel helping with the demolition of the house. As I watched Rachel use a saw and nail gun for the first time, I realized that the show has been doing that same type of scene for years, and I was bored, and even slightly annoyed by it.It all felt very scripted.

While I normally enjoyCelebrity IOU, I found myself wanting to fast-forward through my DVRed episode. The parts in which Drew and Jonathan made choices about cabinet and counter colors were just plain boring, and I wasn’t invested enough in the episode to even care what they selected in the end.

The Celebrity IOU Premiere Reveal Was Underwhelming

The Show Has Run Its Course

Although the reveal of the new kitchen and dining room was a beautiful moment for Rachel and her friends’ family, I didn’t feel emotional at all. The reveal was so special for them, but, after nine seasons, it fell flat for me. It was a repeat of the same gasping and crying that everyone does. I felt cynical, but I finally understood what HGTV fans have been complaining about.

The episode felt as though Drew and Jonathan were going through the motions. It was very “[insert celebrity here],” and it felt as though any star could’ve been in the episode and the outcome would’ve been the same becauseit was so generic. Of course the family will love the renovations, of course they’ll all have a good cry about it, and of course it’ll be another Property Brothers success story.

Perhaps if it was one of the first episodes ofCelebrity IOU, I would’ve liked it more, butI just felt that I’d seen it all before. Now, instead of focusing on different shows,HGTV is giving the Property Brothers two more serieswith the same type of theme.

Celebrity IOUhas become stale and boring, and even a bright light like Rachel couldn’t save it. Maybe it was a mistake to continue the show for a tenth season. I now understand why fans were so upset about their other favorite HGTV series getting canceled. I think thatthe Property Brothers should use their renovation skills to breathe new life intoCelebrity IOU, or perhaps it’s time for the show to come to an end.
