With the release ofSonic Maniajust a day away, SEGA has dropped an upbeat launch trailer loaded with new game footage.

While the bulk of the trailer consists of the animated opening ofSonic Mania, it’s intercut with old and new footage from the game. Fans who have been keeping tabs on the title will recognize some of the levels showcased in the trailer, but there should be a few scenes that are unfamiliar. The trailer also highlights some of the game’s features, such as the ability to play with friends and its reimaginedclassic bonus stages.

The animation is gorgeous and a joy to watch. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails wander through a colorful Escher-esque landscape, where they occasionally jump through rings that take them to the various worlds found inSonic Mania. The characters are drawn in the 90s era style; so much so, that it appears to borrow heavily from animated opening ofSonic CD– and that’s a good thing. And like that opening, it’s also accompanied by a catchy theme that makes you want to jump right in and start racing through levels.

Unfortunately, the launch trailer merely works as a tease for PC players who won’t be able to experienceSonic Maniafor another two weeks. Thedelay was announceda few days ago, and is due to the development team’s desire to do some extra testing on the PC version. As a thank you for their patience, those who preordered the PC version will receive the originalSonic the Hedgehogfor free.

In otherSonicnews,Sonic Forceswill be releasing this holiday season and will feature acustomizable protagonist. WhileSonic Maniatakes the retro approach, with a classic 2D gaming style,Sonic Forceswill be the more modern 3D approach to the series.
