Supermanstar David Corenswet opens up about how and when his Man of Steel could take part in an R-ratedDC Universeproject. Withthe DCU timelinegetting ready to expand in 2025 on the big and small screens, DC Studios is exploring numerous DC heroes and villains in the world of live-action.

However, with the many genres and tones that the DCU will tackle, there will be plenty of opportunities for the franchise to explore both family-friendly stories, and narratives that take more mature routes. With this being the start of a new interconnected universe, time will tell how DC Studios blends the shows and movies together.

In a new interview withNerdist, Corenswet and the DCU’s new Lois Lane, Rachel Brosnahan, were asked where they would want to take their respective characters in the DCU, given the many directions that the DC icons have gone over the years. Corenswet addressed that he would love to see the Man of Tomorrow be involved with DCU projects that are R-rated, sharing the following:

One thing that excites me so much about James’ vision for the DCU is the different genres and tones that the movies can take on. And I know people are skeptical that certain genres and characters can mix. I would love to see this Superman in an R-rated project. In a detective, you know, in a thing like Lanterns, where it’s a True Detective feel. I just think it can happen in spite of how bright and playful this version of the character is.

What David Corenswet’s R-Rated DCU Comments Mean For Superman

Based on everything Corenswet stated,it seems entirely possible for Superman to take part in some of the grittier and adult-themed DCU projects down the line. Asthe DCU crossoversare going to increase the further they get into this universe, there will be times when various corners of the franchise come together.

Just because a DCU movie or TV show has an R-rating,that doesn’t mean Superman suddenly has to cuss or get increasingly violent, as it’s more about being able to see Clark Kent deal with heavier stories and characters. Similarly, whileLanternsmay end up being a more mature show, this doesn’t automatically mean that the Green Lantern-based series will be extremely dark.

A hopeful character like Superman has dealt with dark and mature stories for decades, both in the comics and in other media. From Corenswet’s response, it’s clear that he wants to see the DCU being able to take that approach with his incarnation of Superman.

Our Take On David Corenswet’s R-Rated DCU Comments

While Corenswet’s comments raise the idea of Superman appearing inLanterns, this could also set up the idea that Superman isthe bigPeacemakerseason 2 cameothat is coming up. Since the show is already lining up multipleSupermanconnections, having Corenswet’s hero cameo would make perfect sense, especially sincePeacemakerseason 2 takes place after the July movie.

However, there is no reason why Corenswet’sSupermancouldn’t also be intheLanternsTV show, as season 1 is still filming, with a premiere slated for early 2026. WithDCUmovies and TV shows aiming to be more interconnected, time will tell if Corenswet’s Superman will show up in the upcoming mature projects that have been confirmed so far.
