With the end of October almost here,FortniteBattle Royale is ready to celebrate the spookiest season of the year, with Epic Games having finally madethe free-to-play title’s Halloween eventgo live. Along with the holiday-appropriate decorations strewn across the game’s map, Epic has also decided to give fans a treat by adding a brand new mode called Fortnitemares, and in order to show it off, the studio has released a fresh trailer detailing its gameplay.

As seen in the trailer below forFortnite’s Fortnitemares 2018, the new mode appears to be inspired by the PvE combat found in the game’s Save the World component with a Battle Royale twist, as players will be tasked with surviving opponents' attacks and defeating hordes of non-human enemies. “Cube Monsters”, as they’re called, will come to life from new Cube Fragments across the map. Large amounts of these zombie-like baddies will spawn in corrupted areas while smaller numbers of the creatures spawn randomly throughout a match.

Instead of having to scour the map for gear and resources like in a standardFortniteBattle Royale match, the game’s Fortnitemares mode ought to give players loot and shields for killing the Cube Monsters and destroying Fragments. Depending on the size and type of enemy, whether it be Fiend or Brute, should one of these Cube Monsters be tougher to eliminate, then players will be granted better rewards. For instance, defeating a simple Cube Fiend will grant +3 shield, while offing a Cube Brute will yield +10 shield.

In addition to the arrival of Fortnitemares 2018, it looks as if Epic has also decided to bring back some fan-favorite weapons as well–albeit in new forms–with the above trailer featuring theSix Shooter revolverand Fiend Hunter Crossbow in action against the Cube Monsters. So, bearing all of this in mind, its safe to presume that the majority ofFortnitefans are eager to dive into action in order to celebrate the season in style – especially now that rocket launchers actually shoot pumpkins.

Fortniteis available now in early access for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
