After a long wait, HBO Max’sHouse of the Dragonhas finally arrived. However, it was a rocky start for the streaming service, not because of the show’s plot, but because the anticipation led to many customers being unable to even watch the premiere episode. With the vast number of people tuning in to see theGame of Thronesprequel, thousands of customers complained of the service crashing and shared their grievances online.
As the firstHouse of the Dragonepisode premiered, social media was flooded with complaints of customers not being able to watch the highly anticipated series due to technical issues. The outages seemed to have affected at least 3,000 customers (viaThe Hollywood Reporter), with many sending direct tweets to the streaming service to highlight the issue. HBO Max was quick to address the complaints and clarified that apparently only thecustomers using Fire TV deviceswere affected.

After realizing what the issue was, HBO Max started responding to customer tweets, offering solutions to fix the problem. “Please try closing the app and restarting to see if this helps,” was one recommendation by the streaming service. When it didn’t seem to work, they offered an alternative. “If you’re having difficulties streaming the premiere on your Firestick please go to any other show/movie on HBO Max, turn off subtitles/captions, and then try streamingHouse of the Dragonagain,” read the next suggestion. Customers weren’t sure how subtitles were affecting the service, but they weren’t pleased either way.
House of the Dragonarrived more than three years after theGame of Thronesfinalepremiered. The series, which is considered one of HBO Max’s biggest hits, was based on the book series written by George R. R. Martin. The prequel is also based on Martin’sFire & Blood, and while it is set over a century prior to the events ofGame of Thrones, it also focuses on “the battle for succession to the Iron Throne.”
