Following all the twists and turns ofBarry, Henry Winkler promised the fans that the ending of the HBO hit - which will premiere less than two weeks from now - will surprise them because, much like him, the ending of the show was one that not even he saw coming.

Winkler talked about how becausehe knows as much aboutBarryas the audienceregarding what happens to the other characters, he is always surprised to see the fate of each character when he first watches it. That’s why theHBOshow’s ending, which Winkler admitted he just watched for the first time, will shock the fans much as some of the other twists have.

On a radio appearance onSiriusXM, Winkler admitted howsurprising theBarryending will beto the fans when it premieres. “We saw the end of the show two weeks ago for the first time,” Winkler said. “I watch it in real-time, and even if I have seen some of the episodes before…when you piece it all together, it is mind-bending.” Winkler also revealed how the show’s co-creators always shock him when they execute the show. “I always thought they have just written themselves into a corner; how are they going to get out? And they always do. Bill (Hader) and Alec Berg, they promised us from the very beginning, ‘We will never repeat. We will never duplicate ourselves.’ So they kept their word because I myself am in constant shock about what’s going on.”

Hader and Berg have kept their word because the fourth season has been filled with twists and turns from the beginning. Surprises include Fuches and Barry reconciling in prison, Sally going back to Barry after realizing her life was going nowhere, Barry escaping prison, the death of Cristobal Sifuentes, the eight-year time jump following Barry’s escape, Barry starting a family underground with Sally, and Barry deciding he has to kill Cousineau. Finally, there’s Barry yet again getting caught by Jim Moss, who will do who knows what to the man who murdered his daughter.

As Winkler alluded, making these choices will keep fans tuned in for the last two episodes because no one knows where this story is going. FromBarry’s first episode, it was clear that Barry had grown fed up with the hitman profession and wanted to live a happier, more fulfilling life as an actor. Sadly, he realized he couldn’t leave the criminal underworld just because he found something better, resulting in deaths that hurt the people around him. And Barry’s choices have led to the story veering into new directions that no one thought the show would go into.

So what will happen in the end? It’s clear Sally and NoHo Hank are not happy with where their lives ended up, and yet they only have themselves to blame for how they got there. While Winker’s character appears to be a changed man, that could be a facade, knowinghow addicted to the attention Gene Cousineau is. And, of course, there’s Barry. While Barry may not want to kill people, he has always resorted to murdering anyone who got in his way, and now he may have met his match with Jim Moss. Does he deserve to find his way out, or is it time for him to finally atone?

Barrywill air its final two episodes on HBO and stream them on HBO Max.
