ThePlayStation VR Experienceat E3 2016 showedFinal Fantasy 15from a first-person perspective, in a demo starring shutterbug Prompto. The footage caught the attention of many gamers who were interested in playing a fully fleshed-out version of the experience. Unfortunately,Final Fantasy 15Lead Designer Wan Hazmer has confirmed such a project is not in development and never was.

The news came from a closed media briefing at PlayStation Experience 2017 South East Asia in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday, August 5, where he explained the demo was just a demo.

“The Prompto Shooting game was actually a showcase back then. It was just to showcase the power of the VR – but we have Monster of the Deep! Can you imagine having a Prompto DLC and also having a Prompto VR. Right? We want to offer something very different for every single entry of Final Fantasy XV.”

While audiences aren’t getting a Prompto VR shooting game, Square Enix is developing aFinal Fantasy 15VR experience, but in the form of a less action-packedfishing simulator. WhileMonsters of the Deepdoes see Noctis tangling with some frightfully large aquatic beasts, it isn’t quite what many had in mind. It will be available as a standalone title and is scheduled to release some time in September.

Fortunately, Prompto still got his time to shine withhis own DLCthat released back in June. Instead of first-person, players got a third-person perspective and new shooting mechanics. The DLC reveals what happened to Prompto shortly after he was separated from Noctis and friends late in the story ofFinal Fantasy 15. It’s a journey of self-discovery that sees the return of a fan favorite character who helps Prompto out of some jams.

Final Fantasy 15wrapped its closed beta for the game’s forthcomingmultiplayer modelast week. The mode will allow players to create customizable avatars and join others online to engage in quests and hunt for loot.

Final Fantasy 15is available now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
