Last month’s Nintendo Direct broadcast brought some good news for gamers looking forward to a top-tier FPS to play on their Switch, as it was confirmed thatDoomwould beheading to the consolebefore the end of the year. Now, id Software has confirmed when the widely praised title is set to hit the system.
A developer interview posted by Nintendo earlier today revealed thatDoomis heading to the Switch on August 12, 2025. That’s even earlier than theleaked December release datethat was circulating after the game was listed by a European retailer a few weeks ago.
The video also offers up plenty of new footage of the game running on Switch hardware. We’ve already seen plenty of the game’s campaign from previous Switch demonstrations, but here we see what sort of performance we can expect from multiplayer, which will bedistributed as a separate downloadfor this particular release.
That kind of consideration demonstrates that fact that id Software has been forced to make some tweaks to the game to make sure it’s at its best on the Switch. However, it certainly seems that this version ofDoomwill be able to stand up to its other iterations.
While its graphics might not be quite as impressive, there’s certainly something to be said for having a game like this accessible on the go. The FPS genre is currently underserved on the Switch, so a game likeDoomthat’s already known to be of very high quality is a great addition, especially since this is the first time it will be available on a portable device.
Moreover, it marks the first time thatDoomis hitting a Nintendo system since the fondly rememberedDoom 64. The company’s relationship with publisherBethesda is bringingSkyrimandWolfenstein 2to the system, too — which has to be a big win, given the struggles with third-party support that the Gamecube and the Wii U experienced in the interim.
