Earlier today, theDoomtrilogy stealth launchedon PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with the first two entires in the series being made available on mobile devices as well. The idea that aDoom 64port is forthcoming comes by way of a new PEGI rating, which lists platforms for the title as PC and PS4. For the uninitiated, PEGI is the video game rating system for Europe, and its 16 rating forDoom 64was released on its website just today.

Notably, neither the Switch nor the Xbox One are listed as platforms in this new PEGI listing forDoom 64. While indeed this could mean that the port ofDoom 64is only headed to PC and PS4, that is not guaranteed, as the new PEGI ratings for the just-releasedDoomandDoom 2ports only list these two platforms as well. The fact that those ports also released on Switch and Xbox One means that the PEGI rating can not be taken as definitive word on the platforms for theDoom 64port.
Doom 64released for the Nintendo 64 back in 1997, and its style will certainly not be unfamiliar to those acquainted with classicDoom. A straightforward first-person shooter,Doom 64was met with middling reviews upon its launch, with some feeling as though it did not function as much more than a port of theoriginalDoom. However, the game has definitely amassed a following, and there would certainly be fans excited to play it on current-gen hardware.
For those that are more interested in looking forward in the franchise, rather than looking back, theDoom Eternalrelease dateis not far off. Fans will thus have a chance to take on the forces of hell in a brand new adventure very soon. However, those that have been hoping to revisitDoom 64may find their prayers answered with a forthcoming port.
