The Mandaloriancontinues to dominate theStar Warsdiscussion with reveal after reveal. This time, it was the finale episode of Season 2 that ended with the biggest bang possible, including a very special end-credits stinger for the future of the Disney+Star Warsuniverse inThe Book of Boba Fett.
For those who haven’t seen it: At the end of season 2, there is a scene where Boba Fett makes a short appearanceas an announcement forThe Book of Boba Fett, which will be coming in December 2021. Some folks wondered whether this meant that the show will be taking the place of theThe MandalorianSeason 3. Will both shows run side by side? How does this new project fit into the current slate of projects?

Jon Favreau,creator ofThe Mandalorian, recently did an interview onGood Morning Americato clarify the exact nature of the project. Favreau made a point to explain thatThe Book of Boba Fettis going to be a continuation of sorts, but not a replacement forThe Mandalorian. The show will be running next year instead ofThe Mandalorianseason 3, but productionThe Mandalorianwill pick up as soon asThe Book of Boba Fettconcludes.
Pre-production forThe MandalorianSeason 3 is currently underway, though, so they’ll be ready to hit the ground running when time comes to start filming.The Book of Boba Fettis planned to star Temuera Morrison alongside Ming-Na Wen, with Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Robert Rodriguez executive producing. According to Disney, the show is set within the same timeline asThe Mandalorian, so it will likely have some effect on the adventures of the universe’s current cast of characters.
While this may be disappointing news for those who wanted to jump straight into a new season ofThe Mandalorian, this new show could be a welcome change of pace. Of course, there will be a buffet ofStar Warscontent for everyonegiven the huge number of announcements at Disney’s Investor Day event. Whatever flavor ofStar Warscontent is needed, there will surely be something to satisfy everyone over the next few years.
The Book of Boba Fettwill premiere on Disney+ in December 2021.
