NCIS: Origins Season 1 Finale Ends With Lala’s Fatal Car Crash
The Episode Ends On A Dark Note
Most of theNCIS: Originsfinale centered on Lara Macy’s investigation into Pedro Hernandez’s murder, and while the episode almost ended on a happy note, it ended in devastation instead. In the finale moments ofNCIS: Originsepisode 18, a car swerves to avoid hitting a little girl who had run into the road and the camera zooms in to revealLala was the victim of the crash.
Gibbs practically turned himself in to Macy by giving her Hernandez’s murder weapon and confessing to killing him. However, Lala stepped in and told Macy that if she arrested Gibbs, she would be ruining her life as well, since she could be implicated in many ways. As a result of their years of friendship and Lala’s plea,Macy let Gibbs live freelyand dropped the investigation. Lala was excited to tell Gibbs this, but she found his apartment empty. Apparently, he was in his family home with his dad, Jackson.
What Are The Chances That Lala Is Actually Dead
Lala’s Future Does Not Look Good
Lala’s fate inNCIS: Originsseason 2 does not look good. While not much has been said about her character’s future,there have been a few hints that Lala’sNCISrole is over. Speaking about the finale in an interview withTV Insider, Mariel Molino revealed that she would love to see a spinoff centered on Lala in the 1980s. Molino is tight-lipped about what might happen to her character in the future, but the fact that she is focused on Lala’s past seems to imply that she has no future and that the car crash was her last scene.
Older Gibbs talked about Lala as if she is gone.
Mark Harmon’sNCIS: Originsnarrationalso reveals a hint about Lala’s fate. In the final moments of the finale, just after the car crash,Harmon’s Gibbs spoke about Lala in the past tense. He said, “I loved her all along. I still do.” On their own, these lines could be taken to mean Gibbs loved Lala while they worked together, but the crash adds extra context. Older Gibbs talked about Lala as if she is gone.
TheNCIS: Originspremiere also revealed that the prequel is Lala’s story. As a result, having Lala be both the beginning and end ofNCIS: Origins,at least in season 1, is only fitting if she dies. Killing Lala in theNCIS: Originsfinale wouldexplain why she never appeared in Gibbs' life inNCIS. As unfortunate as it is,Lala’s death makes sense.
How Lala’s Possible Death Shapes NCIS: Origins Season 2
The NIS Team Will Be Fundamentally Changed
Lala’s death would change everything aboutNCIS: Originsseason 2. A major theory about the prequel’s second season was thatGibbs and Lala’s romancewould finally happen. But if Lala dies, the romance ends with whatever happened between them in season 1. The NIS team is also very close andlosing one member of the team is sure to impact how Franks' small but effective squad closes their cases. The finale also hinted at Randy leaving the on-the-ground operation, which adds another level of mystery forNCIS: Originsseason 2.
The biggest way that Lala’s death could shape season 2 is that her death could be the key to transforming Austin Stowell’s Gibbs to be more like Harmon’s version Gibbs has a cold and reserved persona inNCIS, whereas Gibbs is much softer inNCIS: Origins. Lala’s death could be what caused the shift and closed him off for good after he lost so many important people in his life.
