Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 6.Angel Batista (David Zayas) has been a constant thorn in Dexter’s side for all ofDexter: Resurrection, and he highlights what was missing from Miami Metro in the original series. In the originalDexter, many fans took issue with howoblivious Miami Metrowas. They let a prolific serial killer slip under all their noses for decades, not even suspecting him when two separate detectives tried to investigate him.

Miami Metro’s utter incompetence was pretty annoying, and it’s only gotten worse since theending of the originalDexter.New Blood’s Angela Bishop figured out Dexter’s secret in a matter of weeks, andOriginal Sinshowed that Miami Metro hired a different serial killer before Dexter. Now, however,Resurrectionhas shown us what Miami Metro would have been like if it was more competent.

Dexter: Resurrection Has Angel Batista’s Best Police Work We’ve Ever Seen

Angel has been an incredible detective throughout all ofDexter: Resurrection. He knew there was something fishy about Angela’s suddden switch from trying to arrest Dexter to covering for him, he played the friend card with Dexter in the hospital perfectly, and he even tracked Dexter’s car to New York. He also figured out that Harrison killed Ryan Foster lightning fast.

Most recently, Angel figured out that Dexter planted Ryan’s watch in Mia’s room to get the NYPD off Harrison inResurrectionepisode 6.Angel is like a supercop inResurrection, and if he had been this good in the originalDexter, Miami Metro wouldn’t get half as much criticism. If Batista had been this good from the start, Dexter would have had a much harder time staying hidden.

Batista’s much better police work - coupled with Claudette and the NYPD - has givenDexter: Resurrectionalmost as much tension as the original series had in its heyday. Every episode feels like the noose is tightening around Dexter’s neck, and he doesn’t get any “get out of jail free cards” this time around. Batista' competency has madeResurrectiona thrilling show, and it highlights what the originalDexterwas missing out on.

Unfortunately for Angel, his newfound investigative prowess could also be a very bad sign for him. As he gets closer and closer to exposing Dexter and Harrison as serial killers, he’s getting into more and more danger. Right now,it looks like the only way Dexter is going to be able to stop Batista and get him to stop investigating him and Harrison is by killing Angel.

Angel said inResurrectionepisode 6 that the Bay Harbor Butcher investigation haunts him, and that he can’t let go of it until he gets it right. Dexter has also already made a few mistakes and gotten lucky a few times, like when Mia was killed before Batista could question her. Dexter’s luck is going to run out eventually, and Batista isn’t in the habit of overlooking details or making mistakes anymore.

Killing people who get too close to him has also historically been how Dexter deals with problems. Both James Doakes and Maria LaGuerta were onto Dexter only to meet an untimely end (though, admittedly, not by Dexter’s hand). As the noose keeps closing in on Dexter and Harrison inDexter: Resurrection, though,Dexter may be forced to kill Batista himself.
