TheDestinyuniverse is filled with fantastic, well-written stories that are often hidden in lore tabs or the Grimoire. Some ofDestiny’s most well-known weapons, including several weapons inDestiny 2, feature great stories that many fans miss out on. One of theDestinycommunity’s biggest lore experts, My Name is Byf, teamed up with several popular YouTubers and streamers to tell the story of Thorn andThe Last Word, two ofDestiny’s most iconic exotic weapons.
With Thornmaking a triumphant returnin Season of the Drifter, manyDestinyfans are beyond excited to get their hands on this spectacular hand cannon. However, there are many players, both new and old, who do not know the story behind Thorn. That is where My Name is Byf comes in. Byf compiled the rich history of Dredgen Yor and Shin Malphur into one completely voiced-over video with a runtime of nearly an hour and a half. This project was in the works for a long time, and now that Bungie has revealed the missing details of the tale, Byf was finally able to finish this great video.
One thingDestiny’s lore team does right is great writing, and this video gives voice to the great tales written by Bungie. The story of Shin Malphur and Dregden Yor is one of the most iconic pieces ofDestinylore, and the team behind this video brings it to life in such a way that breathes even more life into the great narrative. While Byf is known in theDestinycommunity for creating in-depth lore videos forDestinyandDestiny 2, this one goes above and beyond. Byf has made similar videos in the past for different parts of the lore, including the Books of Sorrow and the rise of Oryx.
The story of The Last Word and Thorn are covered in depth in theDestinyGrimoire Anthology bookthat Bungie published late last year. This book likely helped paint a better picture for the story of Yor and Malphur. Byf did state that he has plans in the future to produce more videos of this caliber about the Books of Sorrow and the Black Armory Papers, so those that enjoyed this video have something else to look forward to in the future.
