Originally planned to go live December 12, the monthly Faction Rally event has been postponed due to the fact that those without Curse of Osiris would have been locked out of the event. Rather than giveDestiny2players yet another criticism to raise against the sequel, Bungie has chosen to re-evaluate its approach to content access.
It’s all part of changes that developer Bungie is making to endgame and seasonal content inDestiny 2,which includes the Faction Rally. In the developer’s original plans for the Curse of Osiris expansion,Destiny 2would have kept players who do not own Curse of Osiris from participating in Faction Rally due to the addition of new ornaments and weapons in the factions inventories.
Moving forward, Bungie will allow every player to participate in events like Faction Rallies, albeit without access to the new content from the expansion. In a blog post on its website, Bungie detailed all thechanges being made toDestiny 2’s seasonal events and endgame, and explained that its new goal is to not take away any content that players already had access to with the launch ofDestiny 2. That would obviously include Faction Rally.
Many of the changes will take affect afterDestiny 2receives the second planned major game update this month, but it appears that giving access to Faction Rallies wasn’t in the cards for the patch. Therefore, Bungie has canceled the event, postponing to an unknown future date, but promising that when it does launch it will be open to all.
This Faction Rallywould have been the first of the game’s Season 2, and it was ready to deliver an opportunity for players to unlock the new ornaments on the armor, earn some new weapons in each faction’s inventory, as well as offer up a new reward weapon for the winning faction of the rally. While the event is unlikely to change any of its content, it won’t be available this week as planned.
