In just a few weeks, the next DLC expansion will drop forDestiny 2. Warmind, as it’s titled, will introduce a new mode, which is the closest thing theDestinyfranchise has ever had to a traditional horde mode, calledHive Escalation Protocol. Inside that new event, there is an Easter egg that harkens all the way back to theDestiny 1Beta.
Destinysubreddit moderator and a community member who took part in the recentDestiny 2Community Summit at Bungie, FuzzleHC, posted the video showing the Easter egg:
For those who may not recognize the in-joke there, it is a reference to the infamous line of dialogue, “That Wizard came from the moon,” which was spoken by the Ghost character - originally voiced byGame of Thronesstar Peter Dinklage - all the way back in theDestiny 1Beta. Back then, the line garnered a flurry of criticism for being poorly written, goofy, and/or just plain bad. It led to Bungie removing the line completely beforeDestiny 1launched and became a meme among veteranDestinyfans.
With the release of The Taken King expansion a year after the release of vanillaDestiny, it was announced thatPeter Dinklage was being replacedas the voice of Ghost. Nolan North ofUnchartedfame took up the mantle of Ghost, and has been the voice of the Guardian’s companion ever since.
This isn’t the first time Bungie has made a nod to the “That Wizard came from the moon” line. InDestiny’s Year 3 Age of Triumph event, the developersworked the dialogue back into the gameduring a version of the very mission it was first spoken; letting the original Dinklage line play before North’s Ghost voice clears his throat.
This Easter egg inDestiny 2is a small, funny acknowledgment to longtime fans that, to be honest, the game should probably be doing more of considering its nearly four-year history. Hopefully, this is a sign of similar things to come.
