WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #6!
DC has just quietly handed the entireJustice Leaguean overpowered upgrade, and the implications are massive. What makes this development even more striking is that the League now includes nearly every hero on Earth. As a result, virtually all of DC’s Earth-bound heroes now possess a surprising immunity that serves as a major boost to their ability-arsenal. However, this massive upgrade has more than a few plot holes.
Mark Waid and Dan Mora’sJustice League Unlimitedcontinues with issue #6, which also serves as part two of theirWe Are Yesterdaycrossover, featuring the return of the Legion of Doom, but with a twist. The Flash’s infamous psychic rogue, Gorilla Grodd, is leading the Legion’s reformation after gaining access to Martian Manhunter’s previously-lost psychic powers.
But instead of recruiting present-day villains, Grodd has traveled back in time to enlist their past selves, targeting them at the peak of their villainy. Part of Gorilla Grodd’s master plan also involves having an insider within the Justice League. However, when it’s revealed thatevery League hero is too“strong-willed”to be mind-controlled, Grodd is forced to come up with a far more creative solution.
It’s Official: DC’s ENTIRE Justice League Are Too Strong-Willed To Be Mind-Controlled

InJustice League Unlimited#6, Grodd’s internal dialogue acknowledges that the Justice League is currently at the height of their power and competence. As a result, he knows he can’t stand against them alone and will need help, including placing an inside man within the League. Given that Grodd now wields not only his own psychic powers but alsoMartian Manhunter’s formidable telepathic abilities, it would seem logical for him to mentally manipulate a League member to act as his mole. At his current power level, this should be more than possible. However, that’s actually not the case.
Through his internal narration,Grodd admits that the Justice League’s“heroes are too strong-willed to be mentally malleable.”While this may seem like a throwaway line at first, it’s actually a huge revelation. It implies the entire Justice League is immune to mind-control, an incredible feat considering Grodd possesses both his own psychic prowess and Martian Manhunter’s, who is among the most powerful beings on Earth. What makes this development even more significant is the fact that the League now includes nearly every hero on Earth, meaning DC has quietly established that all of Earth’s heroes are immune to psychic manipulation.
Sorry, But the Justice League’s New Upgrade Doesn’t Make Sense

It’s honestly a little hard to believe that every single hero in the Justice League is too strong-willed to be mind-controlled. There are always weak links, and considering the roster now includes nearly every hero on Earth, it seems unlikely that not one of them would be mentally malleable enough to manipulate. This development also contradicts John Layman’sTitansnarrative, where Psycho-Pirate recently messed with formerJustice League member Killer Frost’s mental stability. So the idea that the entireJustice Leaguesuddenly possesses willpower on par with legends like Donna Troy and the Green Lanterns doesn’t quite add up.
