The new Crunchyroll channel does not show everything, but a selection of older, popular anime, includingHorimiya,Ranking of Kings,Moriarty the Patriot,Psycho-Pass,Arifureta,Sugar Apple Fairy Tail,To Your Eternity, andCode Geass. All the shows will also be the dubbed version.
While not all anime fans want to watch the dubbed versions, they are easier for new anime fans to get into, since they do not have the barrier of subtitles. Plus, the idea is to give them a basic introduction to the anime world and then lure them over to Crunchyroll’s moreextensive, paid catalog.
The channel is a collaboration between Crunchyroll and Game Show Network (GSN), which are both owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment. While the announcement has been met with excitement by some fans, it has been met with speculation by others as Crunchyroll is right in the middle of a big lawsuit at the moment (there are claims they were selling data from American customers to a thirdy party). There are accusations that this news is meant to distract from what else is going on with the company, but at the same time, others are certainly looking forward to the channel’s release.
The service launched on most services October 11th and will be added to Amazon Freebee on October 17. There have not been any further announcements about if it will launch on any other service or channel at this time, or outside the US. Likely,Crunchyrollis waiting to see how the channel is received as an experiment with one of its biggest audiences first, and if they are successful, it will expand to other regions and channels.
