Chris Pratt said he knows exactly where hisParks and Recreationcharacter, Andy Dwyer, would have ended up after the show’s end. Pratt, who played the hapless but lovable Andy for seven seasons on the popular NBC comedy, gave some insight as to where he’d have ended up should the show return for a reboot.
Pratt toldAccess Hollywoodthat not only would he be “game” for aParks & Recreboot, he also knows that Andy would end up moving to Pawnee’s rival town, Eagleton, and integrate fully into their world. Pratt says Andy would have become a “yuppie” as well as a children’s performer. Read his full quote below.
A reboot? Of course, I’d be game. That was one of the most special seasons of my life, all seven seasons of the show, but that entire era for me, it was so much fun. I love it so much. I’d be so curious to see what Mike Schur and Greg Daniels, and Amy Poehler would have imagined where Andy Dwyer may have gone.
I think he moved to Eagleton and became a yuppie. I think that’d be really funny to explore. Well, he’s now Johnny Karate’s Super Awesome Musical Explosion Show. He’s a children’s performer. So he probably got a little high on the hog being a children’s performer, and it’d be great to kind of see him turn heel. I think that’d be pretty funny.
What This Means For The Future Of Parks & Rec
Parks & Recreationwas one of the most popular shows of the early 2010s, born out of the mockumentary style ofThe Officeon NBC. The show, following the exploits and daily life of the Pawnee, Indiana Parks Department, led byLeslie Knope(Amy Poehler) and her team, including Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) and Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari).
Unlike theupcomingThe Officespinoff,The Paper, there’s been no formal announcement of an actualParks and Recreationreboot or spinoff. However, multiple former cast members have expressed interest in rebooting the franchise in some capacity, outside of theApril 2020 one-off Parks & Rec reunion episode.
Pratt’s comments on both his interest in aParks and Recreationreboot, and fleshing out ideas for his character lend extra credence to a potential reunion or reboot. Pratt got his first major break inParks & Rec, leading him to roles like Peter Quill in Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxyand theJurassic Worldfranchise.
Our Take On Pratt’s Vision For Andy Dwyer
For all the comedic perfection thatParks & Recreationbrought, perhaps no one stuck the landing nearly as often or as flawlessly as Pratt’s Andy Dwyer. Buffoonish, slovenly, and loveable, Andy became the character you rooted for, even when he made it impossible to do so.
A future version of Andy, as described by Pratt, would be a perfect updated take on him, although we’d still very likely root for him even as a “yuppie” in Eagleton. The dynamic would bode well for him and April (Aubrey Plaza), as her dry and sardonic reactions to his new incarnation would be the perfect tidbit of back-and-forth banter.
We’re always hopeful for more time in Pawnee with this gang of underdogs, and althoughnot allParks and Recreationcast members want a reboot, it does feel appropriate to integrate into today’s political climate. Pratt seems excited at the possibility, and if more cast members continue to provide support, we could see it become a reality.
