Nielsen Media Research has published its annual Nielsen Game Rank survey, which reveals the most anticipated video game releases for holiday 2017. As is typical, Activision’sCall of Dutyseries is on track to maintain itsholiday sales dominance, withCall of Duty: WW2named the most anticipated multi-platform game of the season.
Call of Duty: WW2being the most anticipated game of holiday 2017 should come as no surprise. After all,Call of Duty: Infinite Warfaretied withBattlefield 1as the most anticipated game last year, and the year before that,Black Ops 3beat out the mega popularFallout 4for the honor.
Three other multi-platform games were named by Nielsen Game Rank, withAssassin’s Creed Originsright behindCall of Duty: WW2in terms of popularity.Star Wars Battlefront 2andWWE 2K18round out the list for most anticipated multi-platform video games this holiday season.
Besides multi-platform games, the Nielsen Game Rank report also offers some details on console exclusive games. As it turns out,Forza Motorsport 7andGran Turismo Sportare the most anticipated games on Xbox One and PS4 respectively, withSuper Mario Odysseynamed the most anticipated (and really the only major) upcoming Nintendo Switch release.
PC gamers, meanwhile, seem more interested in remakes and remasters than anything new.Age of Empires: Definitive Editionwas named the most anticipated PC title releasing this holiday season, followed byFallout 4 VRandL.A. Noire: The VR Case Files. As for the Nintendo 3DS,Pokemon Ultra SunandMoonearned the top spot, with Mario games likeMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s MinionsandMario Party: The Top 100following closely behind.
Overall, gamers shouldn’t be surprised by Nielsen’s data, asCall of Dutygames have dominated the polls for years. Not only that, butCall of Dutytitles are typically named the top-selling video games every year as well, and considering the hype behindCall of Duty: WW2’sreturn to a World War 2 setting, 2017 shouldn’t be any different.
