Nancy Feldman Was Alex Cooper’s Coach From 2013 To 2015

Feldman is the celebrated former head coach for Boston University’s women’s soccer team, for which Cooper was a player from 2013 to 2015. She was raised in Needham, Massachusetts, and began playing soccer at the age of 13 (viaBU Today). During her years as a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Feldman played forward and midfield on the women’s soccer team before graduating with her bachelor’s degree in public health in 1983. From there, Feldman went on to earn her master’s in exercise and sport studies from Smith College in 1988.

Feldman is credited as the first head coach of Boston University’s Division 1 women’s soccer program, since the institution had previously only had a club team. She was hired on in 1995, and herBoston University bionotes that she built the program from the ground up. Over Feldman’s 27 years at BU, her team claimed 326 victories. The soccer coach retired in 2022, stating (viaPeople) that the program “deserves someone that is able to give 100 percent, 100 percent of the time.”

InCall Her Alex,Cooper alleges that Feldman began to single her out shortly after she started at BU in 2013. Though she initially attributed this to a special interest in her talents, Cooper began to realize that something was wrong during her sophomore year. “Everything shifted,” Cooper said, “I started to notice her really starting to fixate on me way more than any other teammate of mine.”

Cooper explained inCall Her Alexthat this attention didn’t revolve around her skill as a player or her starting position for the team. Instead,Cooper alleges that Feldman would frequently ask who she was dating, make comments about her body, or find ways to be alone together. While reviewing game tape, Cooper said that Felman would make comments like “‘Look at those legs. Everybody look at Alex in her uniform.'” This treatment would reportedly continue into the pre-season period, during which Cooper claims that Feldman would “sit next to me on the couch [and] put her hand on my thigh.”

Cooper and her family allegedly reported Feldman to Boston University’s athletics department, but no action was taken against the coach. This caused Cooper to drop soccer for her senior year. “I felt a lot of anger," Cooper said inCall Her Alex, “anger at my coach, anger at my school, and anger at the system that allowed this to happen.”
