While some like to poke fun at the fact that the game has been released on basically every video game platform imaginable, there is no denying thatThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis a landmark game that is still enjoyed by many gamers to this day.Skyrimhas remained one of the industry’s top games even eight years after its release, and Bethesda’s Todd Howard wants similar longevity fromThe Elder Scrolls 6when it eventually releases.

Speaking to IGN, Howard discussed howSkyrimis “infinitely playable” thanks to things like mod support. “What that does is let us know going intoElder Scrolls 6, this is a game we need to design for people to play for a decade at least. At least.”

Howard’s comments are a strong indication thatThe Elder Scrolls 6will not only have mod support like all other Bethesda games, but that it will also have its own content for replayability as well.Skyrimactually has infinite quests that players can play, meaning that it never truly “ends.” It seems like a safe bet that a similar feature will be inThe Elder Scrolls 6, though the game is so early in development that it’s impossible to say for sure.

Meanwhile, Howard’s comment about designingThe Elder Scrolls 6to be playable for a decade may be a hint as to when we can expect the game. Last we heard, Bethesda was working onStarfieldas its main priority, but some analysts believe that the company mayshift its focus toThe Elder Scrolls 6developmentinstead. The logic behind this is that Bethesda burned a lot of its hardcore fans with the rough launch ofFallout 76, and it wants to useThe Elder Scrolls 6to win them back.

If so, perhaps Howard’s comment could be an indication thatThe Elder Scrolls 6is aiming for a 2021 release. After all, we’ve heard rumblings in the past that theElder Scrolls 6release date would be in 2021, and that would mark 10 years sinceSkyrim’s launch.

Of course, all of this depends on how far in developmentThe Elder Scrolls 6is, which is hard to say at the moment. However, it’s hard to believe that the game won’t be available within the next few years or so.
