Battlefield 6has finally been revealed via a new trailer, and fans are hopeful that it could be a positive turning point for the long-running first-person shooter series. The previous installment,Battlefield 2042, does not have a good reputation, but many are optimistic thatEA’s Battlefield Labsinitiative will result in a return to form.

TheBattlefieldYouTube channel uploaded what is mostly a story trailer, outlining the premise of theBattlefield 6campaign and teasing some of the game’s bombastic set pieces.Battlefield 6’s story revolves around an “unprovoked” attack on the United States by a mercenary company known as the Pax Armata, with New York City specifically being shown under attack. The trailer promises a multiplayer reveal coming July 31.

Fans Are Cautiously Optimistic Following Battlefield 6 Trailer

There’s A Long Way To Go Before Release

Fans seem to be responding well to theBattlefield 6trailer, but there is some clear trepidation in the collective reaction still. Within half an hour, the trailer exceeded 100 thousand likes on YouTube – a promising sign – butthe comments are filled with cautionary words. One of the top comments, from user darkzero7969, says, “Remember, no pre-orders.”

My mind is cautious, my heart is optimistic.

Players are still cognizant of the disastrous technical state thatBattlefield 2042launched in, and are warning others not to spend their money until reviews have come out. Many comments are hoping thatBattlefield 6is a triumphant comeback for the series.“Please, Dice! Bring this legendary franchise back to the top,“wrote salvatore1067. MrShazam mirrors that sentiment: “We just want the PURE BATTLEFIELD experience like the golden days!”

Battlefield 4also had a notoriously buggy launch, but its content and gameplay eventually made up for the rough start, unlike2042.

Perhaps most indicative of the general air surrounding the trailer is f1f2’s comment, which says, “My mind is cautious, my heart is optimistic.” This tracks with what has been seen fromBattlefield 6leaks–the footage looks good, but it’s impossible to pass judgment until players can actually get their hands on the game. It’s clear thatBattlefieldfans have been burnt one too many times to let their excitement take over.

Everything We Know About Battlefield 6

A Return To Modern Day

With this being the first trailer forBattlefield 6, virtually nothing else is known regarding its campaign and story. New York is clearly a key location for the game, but there are other places shown throughout the trailer.Battlefield 6also appears to be the first entry sinceBF4to take place in the modern day. Unfortunately, the reveal trailer is light on details for the central conflict, only revealing the name of the invading force, the Pax Armata.

In a press release, it’s revealed that Pax Armata is “a Private Military Corporation bankrolled by former NATO states whose agenda threatens to throw the world into global conflict.” The press release also emphasizes essentially what is expected ofBattlefield: a focus on squad-based gameplay, large-scale sandbox maps, and plenty of vehicles to pilot.

There is also a clear emphasis on destruction in the trailer, though it’s unclear if many of the set pieces shown are emergent or scripted. There is effectively no gameplay in the entire trailer, but that will likely be remedied by the multiplayer reveal on July 31. Prior to the trailer, it was revealed on social media thatBattlefield 6will have an open beta with both open and class-locked weapons, a contentious topic among the community throughout the Battlefield Labs playtests.

So far, it would seemBattlefield 6is off to the right start, judging by the cautiously optimistic reaction to the reveal trailer. The tone seems to be what people were hoping for, and the art direction is reminiscent ofBattlefield 3and4, two beloved entries. The multiplayer reveal and the open beta will likely be better barometers forBattlefield 6ahead of its still unclear launch date, however.
