Developer DICE has put out a statement to clarify a previous message about the use of one of the most controversial multiplayer features in theBattlefield 6open beta. It was previously thought that the beta and the full game would use AI-controlled bots to fill the massive 64-player lobbies, but it now seems that won’t be the case, at least for theopen beta this week.
In a post to X byBattlefield Comms, the team clarifies thatAI Soldiers (multiplayer bots) are only going to be present in the Training Grounds playlists in the open beta, which are only for the first 15 ranks, and not in advanced matches. The post did not mention how bots would be utilized in the full game.
Battlefield 6 Clarifies How Multiplayer Bots Work For The Open Beta
Their Use In The Full Game Remains Unclear
During this first beta period, the Training Grounds playlist that features bots is called"Breakthrough Initiation,“which is designed to allow players to group up with 15 other real people to play matches inBattlefield 6’s Breakthrough modeagainst AI Soldiers. Training Grounds playlists are designed to introduce new players to Breakthrough.Breakthrough can also be played without AI Soldiersby selecting the mode from the Featured playlist row.
Other than Training Grounds, bots will not be present in the open beta. However, itremains to be seen how they will be implemented in the full game, after it was previously stated that the gamewould feature multiplayer botsto fill lobbies.
Limited Bots Are Great For A Beta
New Players Will Get A Chance To Learn The Game
It is commendable that DICE clarified how bots will work for the open beta. Bots aregreat for letting players learn the gameand even for occasionally allowing players to play multiplayer modes solo. However, their use in full-release multiplayer games often garners criticism for their unresponsiveness, and often leads to real players getting frustrated and losing matches solely based on bots' poor performance.
That being said, we still do not know if bots will fill in for real players in the full game in various modes if the player count can’t be reached. Fans are cautiously optimistic aboutBattlefield 6, and with the open beta having astaggering player count, it seems that slight nervousness may be turning into genuine excitement.
