Battlefield 6has just set the record for Steam’s most popular open beta, keeping up the pace of a massively successful beta period so far. The gamecleared 300,000 concurrent playerswhile the beta still required a key to access, a requirement that’s gone away as of this weekend.

Battlefield 6set the new Steam beta record with 466,159 concurrent players in-game, as recorded bySteamDB. This outdoes the previous record of 463,798 concurrent players set by theMonster Hunter Wildsbeta test. This also brings the game to the 24th-highest concurrent player count of all time on Steam, and the number has continued to climb.

It’s Time For Monster Hunter Wilds To Step Aside

Thehype aroundBattlefield 6has been undeniable, with promising playtest leaks and a back-to-basics approach assuaging community fears that have built up over the last couple ofBattlefieldreleases. The surging popularity of the beta certainly looks promisingfor the game’s success, and it’s a definite reminder thatBattlefieldused to be one of the leaders of the big leagues.

Steam numbers don’t even paint the complete picture, as you can also play on PlayStation and Xbox or through the EA app on PC. The sum might still fall short of EA’s lofty ambitions for 100 million players when the game releases, but it’s nothing to sneeze at.

The Future Of Battlefield 6 Isn’t Set In Stone

There’s Still Room To Lose The Momentum

Beta popularity doesn’t mean everything, andMonster Hunter Wilds' fall from graceis the perfect example. While the game successfully translated its beta hype into sales, a large portion of the community has grown disillusioned thanks to issues like the game’s lackluster PC performance. Rough points can be excused in beta releases, but when the final product doesn’t manage to successfully address them over the course of months, it’s a very different story.

There’s still plenty of room forBattlefield 6to encounter problems when it releases, whether they come in the form of bad netcode or unpopular monetization. AfterBattlefield 5andBattlefield 2042, the fanbase is still full of skeptics, even if the positivity aroundBattlefield 6is essentially growing every day.

Battlefield 6still has another open beta weekend ahead of it, so any players who don’t have the time to join the nearly half a million online right now will still have an opportunity to test out the game. Just how high the player count will peak remains to be seen, but if these numbers are anything to go by, the game’s full release could also be one of Steam’s all-time best-sellers.
