What Ballard’s Teaser Trailer Means For The Bosch Universe

Ballard Makes Several Changes To Maggie Q’s Cold Case Detective

While theBosch: Legacyseason 3finale is set to introduce Q’s detective,Ballard’s teaser trailer hints that the spinoff might be the one to give answers to her origin story and how she met Harry Bosch. The trailer also indicatesa book change for Ballard, who, in Michael Connelly’s novels, is an existing LAPD detective working the night shift before focusing on the cold cases. However, in the trailer, Ballard is teased to be “a new detective” who finds herself in a time of change.

Ballard has been a character in several of Connelly books, including one within theLincoln Lawyerseries, which has its own show on Netflix.

The tension between Ballard and Bosch at the end of the teaser trailer suggests thatat least one detail about their relationship will be faithful to the books. In Connelly’s novels, Bosch and Ballard didn’t initially get along, but they developed a tight bond through working together. On the other hand, the official logline forBallardteases Bosch being a much-needed help when the cold case detective uncovers a large conspiracy that puts her and her unit in danger. Clearly, their dynamic will be a key part of the new show.

Our Take On Ballard’s Teaser Trailer

Harry Bosch Is Back In Action

The teaser seesMaggie Q’s characterstruggling at work, and no matter how hard she tries, obstacles always make their way to her. This initially includes Harry Bosch, who seems to be someone coming to stop her from working the case rather than help, which isvery different from their alliance in theBosch: Legacyseason 3 finale. How they manage to get to a place of trust and comfort is likely one of the key stories the new series will explore, and it will hopefully be a compelling one.

Coming to Prime Video on May 29, the new series will see Bosch returning to the police station. With Ballard being an active officer on the force, there could potentially be more interactions to come between Bosch and the LAPD. After exploring Bosch’s private investigator stage inthree seasons ofBosch: Legacy, it would be nice to see Welliver’s titular character back in action again inBallard.
