Last year, Square Enix created quite a bit of buzz when it announcedThe Avengers Project, an ambitious undertaking based on Marvel Comics being handled by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. Since then, very few details about themulti-year, multi-game endeavorhave come to light, but perhaps development will ramp up thanks to two prolific developers joining the team.
As announced by Crystal Dynamics,Uncharted: The Lost Legacydirector Shaun Escayg, who also worked onThe Last of Us, is now the creative director forThe Avengers Project. Meanwhile,Dead Spaceproducer Stephen Barry will serve as the director of production.
Unfortunately, further details onThe Avengers Projecthave yet to be revealed. We don’t know exactly how far along the project is in development, and we also aren’t sure what platforms it will be available on. However, more details could come to light over the next year or so, assuming development goes as planned.
It’s true that Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, and Eidos Montreal have remained tight-lipped on whatThe Avengers Projectwill actually entail. However, that doesn’t mean we don’t have an idea of what to expect. A job posting listed last year suggested thatThe Avengers Projectwould follow agames as a service model, and that it would likely feature online multiplayer functionality along with third-person gameplay.
While fans have some idea of what to expect fromThe Avengers Project, it would still be nice to see it in action. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to say at this point when exactly fans may get to see gameplay footage, as we have no idea what stage of developmentThe Avengers Projectis in. Hopefully bringing talented developers like Shaun Escayg and Stephen Barry aboard will help speed up production a bit, and fans won’t have to wait too much longer to get their first substantial look at the ambitious game.
