Life sim gameinZOIhas a big day planned later this month, with the launch of its first-ever DLC planned for August 20.inZOI, the life sim developed byPUBGstudio Krafton, was released earlier this year, and subsequently floated as aserious competitor to the languishingSimsfranchise. While players were impressed by its high degree of customization, its lack of contentcompared toThe Simscaused many to shelve it, at least temporarily - it’s still in early access, after all.
ButinZOIis stepping up its game this month with the launch ofits first-ever DLC,Island Getaway, which is scheduled for release on August 20. A Mac version ofinZOIwill also launch the same day, available via both Steam and the App Store. The DLC introduces a new map, Cahaya, with a tropical, Southeast Asia-inspired setting.Island Getawaywill also include new features and quality-of-life improvements available across the game. And the best part is thatit’s totally free.
What To Expect From inZOI’s Free DLC
Island Living In Cahaya
The biggest new feature ofinZOI’sIsland GetawayDLC isits new map, Cahaya. This is a tropical, island locale that “blends natural beauty with laid-back city living,” per a Krafton press release. It’ll include both a large, urban island, and a smaller resort where you can engage in summer fun like swimming, snorkeling, and boating.
New customization optionsare also coming with the release of the DLC.Island Getawaywill introduce new beachy outfits and hairstyles for Zois, while new decor items will allow you to build a seaside getaway.
Island Getawayis also addingnew life sim features, which you can access on all maps- not just Cahaya. You’ll now be able to farm, mine, craft gems, and fish with your Zois. New rideable vehicles will help you get around Cahaya in style, with motorcycles and electric scooters due to be added in the DLC as well.
In addition, character interactions have been enhanced across the game. Zois will now hold “random gatherings,” starting spontaneous parties without the need for player input. Thought bubbles will show you what’s going on inside your Zois' heads, and cooperative actions will allow you to participate in various life sim elements with others.
Finally, several quality-of-life and system improvements will be added with the DLC. You’ll see improvements to the user interface and experience, official controller support, and 90-plus new music tracks across the game. Krafton promises a “smoother gameplay” experience due to these improvements.
To promote the DLC and updated content,Krafton will hold a livestream on August 14 at 6 PM PT (9 PM ET), on its official YouTube and Twitch channels. The devs will also make an appearance atthis year’s Gamescom, held in Cologne, Germany from August 20–24. Attendees will be able to test out the game at Krafton’s show floor booth, while in-game events and influencer challenges will allow everyone else to get in on the fun.
Free DLC Is An Improvement On The Sims
A Bold Move By inZOI
Say what you will aboutinZOI, butfree DLC gives it a massive edge overThe Sims. It now costs over $1,000 USD to buyThe Sims 4with all its DLC, and, in recent days, fans have complained that each successiveSimsDLC does more harm than good.
inZOIlaunching new content for free, however, gives it a massive financial edge overThe Sims. It seems like future content may also be released at no additional cost, too, as Krafton’s press release callsIsland Getawaythe game’s “firstfree DLC.” This may come to an end after the game’s early access period, but for now, it hints at a pretty promising future forinZOI.
