“Shadowland” is the Perfect Storyline forDaredevil: Born Againto Adapt
Daredevil is Getting Ready to Dive Deeper into the Darkness
In 2010, Marvel Comics ran “Shadowland”, an event that focused on the street-level heroes of the Marvel Universe with Daredevil taking the center stage. In the story, Daredevil returns to New York, intending on using the mystical clan, the Hand, to clean up the city. As the Hand’s leader, he has a giant prison known as Shadowland constructed to serve as his base while he and his underlings begin taking Matt’s superhero colleagues down. The heroes realize thatMatt has been possessed by the Hand’s Beast and eventually excise him, bringing Daredevil’s time as a crime lord to an end.
Daredevil: Born Againwould likely take some liberties in bringing this storyline to life since the Hand was defeated in theDefendersminiseries. However, there are elements from this storyline that lend themselves well to what the show is currently doing. Matt might not be building a regime, but Kingpin is with his Red Hook central base. And as noted, Matt is set to wear an all-black costume like he did in “Shadowland”, reflecting the dark journey he’s taking.NoDaredevilstoryline has been adapted 1:1, but the series could take pieces of “Shadowland”to build a strong season 2.
Daredevil: Born Again’sNext Storyline Should Take Matt to a Darker Place
The “Shadowland” Arc is the Perfect Story to Build Off Season 1
Daredevil: Born Againhas left Matt and his allies in a rough spot with the city under martial law and vigilantes on the run from the law. The “Shadowland” arc was a storyline that really challenged Matt as he grappled with an internal darkness. While bringing to to life faithfully wouldn’t make much sense, carefully selected elements could really enhance what the creative team did in the show’s first season. The Netflix show was great when it took pieces from the “Born Again” storyline, andDaredevil’snewest show can do the same thing for season 2 with the “Shadowland” arc.
