Respawn Entertainment has been working on improvements to its team-based battle royaleApex Legends, with a producer on the game recently confirming it willadd a much-needed reconnect featurefor those times when a server issue leads to players getting kicked out of a match. Yesterday the officialApex LegendsTwitter account also announced a patch for PlayStation 4 users that promises to make the experience of playing online smoother in general.
The patch, pushed out yesterday afternoon according to the tweet, focuses primarily on two issues that PS4 users have experienced: The playlist selector defaulting to Trios mode when a player finishes their match or changes their character, and wonky menu controls after picking up loot during a game. While Apex Legends is a title that primarily centers around having teams of three, the Old Ways Lore Event that ran throughout April came alongside the implementation ofDuos as a permanent game mode.

The third point highlighted by the tweet is more of a vague, blanket statement that this recent patch also saw “crash fixes,” with no further detail given as to what exactly caused the crashes that have now been fixed. However, given the aforementioned coming update to provide players with a reconnect feature, it’s clear theApex Legendsdevelopment team is pretty heavily focused on making sure its players have as smooth a time as possible.
Long-term service games likeApex Legendsrely on keeping their players coming back to experience new content, and design director Jason McCord has confirmed thatat least four more seasons of content are plannedfor the game. By taking the time to work out the kinks and quality of life hitches with its online experience now, the studio will likely ensure thatApex Legendshas a healthier life in the long run.
Another big contributing factor to keepingApex Legendsalive is its competitive scene. The ongoingApex LegendsGlobal Series tournamenthas been affected by the coronavirus pandemic and stringent restrictions on large gatherings, but recently it was moved online and given three new events.
With whatever new content Respawn Entertainment has planned for future seasons, players can also expect new Legends to play with. It’s believed that Season 5 is going toadd a character named Loba, though she has not been officially revealed. Hopefully these patches being put out will make it easier for PS4 players especially to take part in Season 5 content once it rolls out.
Apex Legendsis free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
