Over the past month or so, it’s become ever clearer that the next season ofApex Legendswill be arriving soon, along withall of the new content therein. What hasn’t been as clear, though, is when exactly. That’s a mystery Respawn Entertainment addressed this weekend, but in doing so it confirmed that all of that new stuff will be coming a little later than expected.
Up until recently, it was believed thatSeason 5 would launch on May 5, as both the timer for Season 4’s battle pass and the current split of ranked play are both slated to end on that day. Yet in a post on the officialApex Legendswebsite, the game’s design director Jason McCord confirmed that while May 5 may have originally been the targeted launch date, it isn’t anymore.

Instead, Season 5 will kick off one week later, on May 12, giving Season 4 a one-week extension in the process. McCord didn’t provide a reason for this move, nor did he go into any detail regardingwhat the next season may bring toApex, but did state that this should give players that much more time to grind out their battle passes and attempt to reach a higher level in ranked before Season 4 wraps up.
It’s possible that Season 5 is being delayed to make room forApex’supcoming Battle Armor event, which McCord went into greater detail about. As the name implies, the new limited-time mode will shake things up by removing armor from the loot pool and giving every player the same armor for the whole match, with the armor type changing every few days.
According to McCord, the full schedule is as follows:
Besides offering players another way to playApex, McCord teased what it means for the game as a whole going forward, stating that the Battle Armor event “is just one way we are going to start experimenting with the core gameplay ofApex Legends, and we’re excited to introduce even more twists inSeason 5 and beyond.”
Apex Legendsis available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
