A new Premium Warbond has been unveiled forHelldivers 2, releasing a week from now on July 17. Following theinvasion of Super Earthby the Illuminate, the new Warbond has a bunch of wacky items based on the aliens' technology, and players are already hyped to get their hands on them.

TheHelldivers 2Control Group Warbond was detailed in aPlayStation Blogpost and shown off with a trailer onYouTube. Following the usual pattern, Control Group includes a couple of armor sets and a handful of new items and stratagems, most of which pose a significant threat to the user and their teammates. Collateral damage is practically guaranteed inHelldivers 2, and players are already jazzed about the new additions, with oneReddituser calling Control Group an “Aperture Science a** warbond,” referring to the notoriously dangerous experiments conducted in thePortalgames.

Players Are Already Excited About Control Group’s Release On July 17

Both Long-Awaited & Unforeseen Additions

More recent Warbonds have been controversial because ofhow few items they include, butthe immediate response to the Control Group lineup is very positive. It’s delivering some frequently requested additions, like a plasma support weapon (the PLAS-45 Epoch) and a laser turret (the A/LAS-98 Laser Sentry). It’s more notable, however, for the unexpected items coming toHelldivers 2.

The standout is the LIFT-182 Warp Pack, which lets a Helldiver teleport a short distance via wormhole. The wormhole eviscerates anything standing in the emergence zone, and will become destabilized through repeated use, eventually collapsing on and killing the Helldiver using it. Another surprise addition is the VG-70 Variable, “a seven-barreled volley gun with three different firing modes: Auto, which has three selectable RPM values; Volley, which fires a single shot from each barrel at once; and Total, which fires all remaining ammunition in one go.”

In the Reddit thread linked above, the top comment referencesMen in Black, saying, “Noisy Cricket, blink backpack, and freaking laser turrets. I’m in.“The severe threat of friendly fire is clearly a bonus to the playerbase, with another comment saying, “A new turret that will definitely have the Gatlings targeting? Blessed.” That sentiment pervades other comments, too: “Oh my god the backpack lets you telefrag enemies (and also probably allies lol).”

Control Group Proves Helldivers 2 Is Best With Even More Chaos

An Impressive New Warbond

Thelast few Warbondshave seen a middling response from players. They usually have just an item or two that Helldivers are really looking forward to, or some unfortunately underwhelming additions. Control Group so far seems to be a winner with the community, which goes to show howplaying up the absurdity of the game is when it really shines.

Control Group feels like a great addition roughly a month beforeHelldivers 2launches on Xbox, hopefully bringing some more excitement back to the co-op shooter right before the influx of new players. A year and a half after release,Helldivers 2is still going strong, and the new Control Group Warbond shows that it still has plenty of tricks up its sleeve.
