By the timeAnthemwas officially revealed to the public,Destinywas already a household name. Upon seeing these futuristic-looking, armored Javelins jetpack around on exotic planets, it was hard to deny the similarities between the two games. However, it might come as a surprise to learn thatAnthemwas in development beforeDestinywas ever released.
This interesting tidbit was dropped byAnthemLead Producer Michael Gamble in a recent video interview. At one point, he was asked about the impact similar games have had onAnthem, whether it was a disadvantage or helpful for games likeDestinyandThe Divisionto come before, and how BioWare has learned from them. In response, he revealed how far back development onAnthemactually began.
“It’s interesting because Anthem has been in development since before Destiny even came out…and talked how games these days are influenced by the games out in the market to a certain degree."
Anthemmay have been lagging a bit behind the others, but it has been chugging along all the while. Additionally, with the ability to observe and take notes on how similar games have fared, a later release may have been a huge benefit toAnthem.
That release is now right around the corner, and because of that, loads of information on the game has been pouring out into the community, such as a newgameplay video that details Fort Tarsis, the hub world for players inAnthem.Fort Tarsis is a solo experience, where players will engage with various NPCs to obtain quests and expand the game’s lore. It is also where players can do a little shopping or organize their vaults.
For those ready to jump into the world ofAnthem, who still haven’t decided which Javelin to pilot, there is a handy-dandy chart that breaks down damage and skills for each class that may help. Each Javelin is unique, and approaches combat in different ways. It’s just a matter of choosing one that fits your style.
Anthemis scheduled to release on June 20, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
