As noted byJammin333on Twitter,this design is deliberately evocative of Darth Maul. When the Sith Apprentice was resurrected inStar Wars: The Clone Wars, it was with cybernetic spider-legs added to the mix - making this Darth Maul reference so very smart.

Andorhad a mammoth $650 million budget, so it’s not really a surprise to see how much care and attention went into every aspect of the design.
