Frictional Game’s latest entry into theAmnesiaseries takes players deep into a bunker, introducing war trauma to their world of horror. Players will find themselves in a desolate war bunker, but they may not be alone as they think, as something seems to stir into the dark, without much ammunition to defend themselves.

As such, players will have to be cautious and clever with how they explore the bunker if they hope to survive, but it is all too easy to fall into the trap of making some rookie mistakes that could cost them the game.
7Setting The Difficulty To High
Seasoned gamers may think they are up to the challenge of taking on the bunker and what horrors it hides and bump the difficulty up to Hard. However, this could prove to be a mistake by punishing them withthe challenge the harder difficulty setting presents. As a game that relies on stealth mechanics and scant resources that are just enough to see players through, the harder difficulty will be punishing for beginners.
As such, players should stick to Easy or Normal, at least for their first time into the bunker, which will allow them to experience the game and its horror elements without getting too frustrated when they have to repeat scenarios. Once frustration sets in while playing a horror game, all sense of terror is lost, thus spoiling the experience. If players wish to challenge themselves, the Hard difficulty will be there for a second playthrough, when they are already familiar with the layout and obstacles.
6Turning Off Hints
As well as being able to customize the difficulty of their experience,Amnesia: The Bunkeroffers more in-game options, such as subtitles, highlighting objective markers, and hints. This also ties into the difficulty aspect, as disabling the game’s hints would mean the player has to rely on their own knowledge and intuition to know where they must venture next, and what they must do. This would be especially challenging if the player were to take a break from the game and return with very little memory.
Players should definitely avoid making the error of unchecking the box either from their own confidence or even something as simple as a misclick, as players would surely regret it, wandering around the bunker with no notion of what they must do.
5Ignoring Injuries
Amnesia: The Bunkeris a survival horror game, in which injuries and some limitedcrafting go hand-in-hand. Players who have dived intoAmnesiaon the back of other survival horror titles such asResident Evilmight be tempted to stockpile their supplies, but doing so would be at their peril, as injuries put the player at a higher risk of being tracked and discovered by the beast of the bunker, as well as attracting the hungry rats that inhabit it.

When players are injured, they leave a trail of blood behind them, which can lead enemies right to them, or the dreaded rats that can also swarm Henri and deal a surprising amount of damage. As such, players should avoid stocking up on the healing resources, and use them as necessary.
4Making Too Much Noise
Veterans of theAmnesiaseries will know that noise can be deadly to the player. However, those that are new or who haven’t picked up anAmnesiagame in a long time might be blissfully unaware of the danger running and performing loud noises poses to the player. Noise informs the monster of Henri’s whereabouts and brings him right to the player, ready to make a meal out of them.
As such it is imperativeplayers try to remember to stealth, especially if they hear the telltale grunts of the beast which indicate it’s close. Though it can be tempting for players to see if they can make a break for it, players should avoid the temptation and be patient if they want to survive the bunker for another day.
3Standing Your Ground
Equipped with weapons such as a pistol and grenades, and provided with some explodable barrels in the area, players might be tempted to go head-to-head with the Bunker’s beast to see if they can dispatch their foe and explore the bunker risk-free, but that would be a mistake.

When the player inevitably attracts the beast either due to blood trails or loud noise actions, the beast will come to investigate, and many gamers' first instincts would be to pump it full of lead. However, this would beas fruitless as trying to take on Mr. X inResident Evil 2,as the best players can do is momentarily stun it. As such, players should avoid standing their ground, and instead flee and hide to conserve ammunition for unlocking doors, or for when they are caught between the beast and a dead end.
2Not Taking The Rats Seriously
While the beast is a major threat, Henri must also contend withthe rats that can be seen scurrying throughout the bunker. As mentioned previously, the player’s blood trails can attract rats, which are eager for a taste of Henri’s flesh.
Because of their diminutive size, players might make the mistake of thinking of them as harmless and simply ignore any threat that they pose. This would be unwise, as the rats can deal a surprising amount of damage to Henri, and if the player is careless, the rats will swarm and kill him. As such, they should ensure to avoid rats as best as they can and heal injuries to avoid summoning them.
1Always Turning On The Generator
Knowing thatlight can help keep the beast at bay, and that without the light, players will be plunged into pitch darkness, it’s tempting to always switch on the generator every time players return to the Administration room, as it does make exploration much easier and safer. However, doing so puts the players at risk of burning through all the fuel, as it is not an infinite resource.
This would then mean players might not have enough fuel to light their way in later segments of the game. As such, instead of switching it on each time they leave the room to explore more of the bunker, players should consider where they are going and what they need to do next and use their own intuition and risk assessment to see if they could manage a segment without the aid of the generator.
Amnesia: The Bunkeris available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Microsoft Windows.
