Yutani (Sandra Yi Sencindiver) in Alien: Earth

Alien: Earth Will Put The Spotlight On Yutani Before Merging With Weyland

Showrunner Noah Hawley Said Alien: Earth Will Explain Yutani’s “Matriarchical Structure”

The Weyland-Yutani corporation has been a mainstay of theAlienfranchise since the very beginning. They were the ones who sent theNostromoto LV-426 in the first place, and they’ve largely played villains ever since. While we did get a great look at Weyland’s origins through bothPrometheusandAlien: Covenant, we’ve never gotten much information about Yutani.

TheAlienprequel movies told us everything about Peter Weyland from his desire to continue life through synthetics to his death at the hands of the Engineers.Yutani, however, has remained a mystery; at least untilAlien: Earth. Sandra Yi Sencindiver will play Yutani inAlien: Earth, and showrunner Noah Hawley expressly said he wants to investigate her side of the company (viaVanity Fair).

The Yutani side is a matriarchal corporation. Her grandmother ran the company, and then her mother ran it, and somewhere there was a merger with Weyland. Now Yutani is trying to navigate being the second name in the corporation, holding on to power and managing the geopolitics on a planet where there’s five corporations that control everything. In the end, they all just want to be a monopoly.

While Hawley did mention that Yutani is in charge of the company after its merger with Weyland,Alien: Earthis still going to give us our greatest insight into Yutani independently of Weyland. Most of that is due to how Yutani connects to the main disaster that kicks off the events ofEarth: the crash-landing of theMaginot.

How Yutani Is Involved With Alien: Earth’s Big Disaster

Yutani Sent The Maginot & The Corporation Wants To Claim Its “Biological Assets” Before Prodigy

In the same article, Noah Hawley also revealed that the Yutani corporation is directly responsible for the events ofAlien: Earth.Yutani’s grandmother sent theMaginoton a mission to find and recover alien specimens about 65 years beforeAlien: Earthstarts. Since it was a Yutani mission, Yutani wants to recover the Xenomorph and other alien species before Prodigy can get to them.

Hawley also explained thatthe five corporations that rule Earth view the Xenomorphs and the rest of the life forms on theMaginotas “wealth-generating biological innovations.“More specifically, Yutani the person views the cargo of theMaginotas something of a family heirloom, a gift from her grandmother. In short, Yutani is going to fight to get the life forms back.

Since the recovery of the Xenomorph and the other aliens is going to be so central to Yutani’s goals, it’s clear thatAlien: Earthis going to show at least the top of Yutani’s corporate structure. Yutani the person will likely have to find ways to fight Prodigy’s “Lost Boys” and get her own people into the crash site. With any luck,Alien: Earthcould give us as much information about Yutani as we have about Weyland.
