Love Island USAseason 7’s recent episodes may have featured someblatant producer interference in the way Nic Vansteenberghe and Olandria Carthen were matched up, but I’m having a great time watching the drama unfold. ThroughoutLove Island USAseason 7, viewers have been keeping a close eye on the level of producer interference in the relationships playing out on screen.
While some have felt there’s an unusual level of production interference throughout the season, especially after the success ofLove Island USAseason 6, others have been relishing the drama without considering where it’s coming from.Love Island USAseason 7’s casthas been dramatic on their own, butit’s clear some of their excitement has come from outside sources.
Throughoutthe run ofLove Island USA,there’s been a case for production interference making a difference in the way the Islanders behave toward one another. While the current season hasn’t proven to be riddled with interference, I’ve definitely noticed it in some moments. Even so,I don’t think production interference is always bad. Sometimes, it creates the most incredible moments.
Nic, who’sbeen coupled up with Cierra Ortegathroughout the season, has clearly had a lingering attraction towardsLove Island USA’sresident Alabama Barbie, Olandria. While Olandria’s spent the entire season with Taylor Williams,an orchestrated elimination and path to staying on the show left both Nic and Olandria willing to explore something more. However it happened, I’m enjoying it thoroughly.
Love Island USA’s Nic & Olandria Have Been Fan Favorites
Viewers Have Been Hopeful They’d Explore A Connection
AlthoughLove Island USAhad all themakings of a good Casa Amor runalready, they took things to the next level with Nic and Olandria both being dumped from their group. While it was emotional for the Islanders, most viewers were quick to clock that they wouldn’t necessarily be leaving the show. Rather than being “dumped,“Nic & Olandria were simply told to pack.
When they were revealed to be on a romantic, serene date and eventually challenged to couple up, it was clear producers were working their magic.Orchestrating a twist for a pair that viewers have been angling to see together all season may be interfering with the natural order ofLove Island USA, but it worked well.Nic & Olandria’s chemistry was sweetto watch.
While I was aware for the majority of the episode that they were coupled up that they were playing into it a bit more than was natural, I liked watching.Whether Nic was trying to help Olandriamake her former match Taylor jealous or they were just having a good time,it was a fun, flirty moment for the temporary match.
The Show Has Been Called Out For Producer Interference All Season
The Accusations Came After A Successful Season 6
Despite the fact thatLove Island USAseason 7 has reached new heights in terms of streaming metrics, viewers have been struggling with the idea that producers have been interfering with the storylines all season long. After the success ofLove Island USAseason 6, which was the show’s biggest yet, viewers feel the show has been chasing similar success.
Chasing the high ofLove Island USAseason 6 is a good enough reason in my eyes toallow the producers working on the show to do their big one. I’m all for seeing reality TV producers work their magic to encourage the most intense situations. Cast members aren’t being told what to say directly, so producer interference can only do so much.
I’ll be honest: I don’t know if I care about producer interference on a show like Love Island USA.
I’m Having Fun Despite The Potential Producer Pot Stirring
Hot Take: Reality TV Needs Producer Interference To Work
I’ll be honest:I don’t know if I care about producer interference on a show likeLove Island USA. For a series that is such a compacted, short experience, the Islanders wouldn’t likely act as extreme or intense enough to bring the right level of drama without producers coming into the mix to push, prod, and produce their big moments.
I loved the moments ofNic and Olandria deciding to exploretheir connection, and their chemistry wasn’t fake. Watching the pair enjoy themselves, even if it was Love Island USA’s producers interferingin the storyline, was well worth it to me. I’m happy to watchLove Island USAcontinue to try to top its best moments, no matter who’s in control.
Love Island USAairs every night at 9 p.m. EDT on Peacock, except Wednesdays.
