WhileA Working Manisn’t one of those films that could redefine the genre and become one of the best movies of the year, the movie was absolutely one of the best by legendary action star Jason Statham.A Working Man’s critical reviewsweren’t quite as good as his previous film,The Beekeeper, but these movies are not meant for the critical audience.Even then, the action movie easily managed to stand up against some of the actor’s best work.
Statham’s filmography has had its ups and downs over the years, with his biggest success coming in theFast and Furiousfranchise, which is still ongoing to this day. However, while Deckard Shaw remains his most well-known role, and those films are some of his absolute best, the actor is usually at his peak when he is in the starring role.A Working Manis Statham performingat great heights by showcasing his action chops.
A Working Man Features Some Of Jason Statham’s Best Action Scenes
The Actor Was Performing At His Best Here
WhileA Working Manwasn’t constant action throughout every scene, the moments where it all kicked off were excellent, and some of Statham’s best. The first fight happened right away, which was just a small display of Levon’s skills as he fought off a group of thugs harassing one of his workers. It was a great introduction to the character, butthe action scenes were given much more time to breathe later on in the movie, with the highlight happening duringA Working Man’s ending.
Levon was brutal, and that brutality made the action in the film pop even more, giving it something to differentiate itself from a lot of other movies in the genre.
The final fight, where Levon took on the entirety of Dimi’s hideout, was excellentand felt like a great culmination of all the smaller moments of action throughout the movie. Jenny’s escape was very tense and exciting, and being able to see her be more than just a victim and actually take charge of her own safety was great, even though Levon still ended up being her savior. The protagonist was brutal, and that ferocity made the action in the film pop even more, giving it something to differentiate itself from a lot of other movies in the genre.
Jason Statham’s Levon Cade Isn’t The Only Interesting Character In A Working Man
The Film Built Up A Handful Of Other Interesting Characters
While Statham was obviously the star, one of the reasons that the film worked so well was because of how solid Jenny, played by Arianna Rivas, was as acharacter inA Working Man.She didn’t have all that much to do, as she spent the majority of the movie just being abducted. However, thankfully, she did get the opportunity to show off in several action scenesnear the end of the movie.
Even though she didn’t have much time to shine, the fact that she was so compelling with her limited screen time made her all the more interesting, and her action scenes, one of which involved Jenny helping to kill one of her two kidnappers. While Jenny was the only one to get a big action scene aside from Statham, David Harbour’s Gunny was also a very interesting figure. IfA Working Mandoes end up getting a sequel, seeing him fight alongside Levon would be great to see.
A Working Man Utilizes Jason Statham Better Than His Other Action Movies
He Feels Right At Home As Levon Cade
A Working Manhad great action moments, and, as always, Statham was the standout, but that wasn’t the only reason that the movie succeeded.Levon is a character who inhabits a very similar archetypeto that of many of the actor’s other roles, but he manages to hit all the right notes to be a compelling addition toStatham’s filmography.Levon is quiet and reserved, while still being the ultimate fighter and that characterization worked really well for Statham inA Working Man.
