TheX-Menalways had a hard enough time trying to combat Magneto as a unit. To even think of trying to fight Magneto off in a one-on-one scenario is practically a suicide mission. The modern roster should be glad that he’s on their side today, even ifMagneto’s hero-villain allegiances remain murky.
However, the way that power levels work inX-Menlore, there is always a mutant who would be considered even more powerful. The highest potential of mutanthood isan Omega-level mutant. Magneto is such an Omega-level mutant, hence why he’s so powerful, but even at the peak of mutant prowess, Omegas can be stronger than each other. There are such mutants who prove to be stronger than Magneto, and unlucky for a more nefarious version of the former villain, some of those Omegas are on the X-Men. Such members would be capable of taking Magneto out in one shot.
8Jean Grey Can Destroy Magneto With or Without the Phoenix Force
The Phoenix Makes for Jean’s Ultimate Secret Weapon
Even without the Phoenix, Jean Grey is an all-powerful Omega-level mutant, and one that history has shown can overwhelm Magneto if given the opportunity. In an alternate reality depicted inOriginal X-Men#1, where her mentor Charles Xavier is killed, Jean’s once-latent telepathy powers unleash themselves to shut down Magneto’s mind. Keep in mind that Jean is capable of doing this using her full power before coming in contact with the Phoenix. WIth the Phoenix Force being a cosmic entity that encompasses all psionic energy within the multiverse, Magneto doesn’t stand a chance.
Without needing the Phoenix entity to boost Jean Grey, the addage of the Phoenix is nothing more than an added bonus.
That’s not a knock against him either, as no one stands a chance against the Phoenix Force. Today, Magneto stands even less of a chance against Jean Grey, who hasachieved her most powerful form yet. Without needing the Phoenix entity to boost Jean Grey, the addition of the Phoenix is nothing more than an added bonus.
7Iceman is the X-Men’s Most Underestimated Member
He’s Given Magneto a Struggle Before
One of the most overlooked Omega-level mutants on the X-Men is one of its original five members, Iceman. Some look at his ability to produce ice from anywhere at any time and underestimate just how powerful that makes Bobby Drake. Fans even underestimate those powers as being lame, but on the contrary, it ranks Iceman among the strongest mutants on the planet. His powers have gifted him immunity from being infected by the Brood, adjusting his size to become a kaiju-style giant as a shapeshifter, and can even freeze time. Iceman is more versatile with his powers than people expect.
For proof of the matter, one can look no further than 1963’sX-Men#18, where Iceman overpowers Magneto back when he had yet to tap into his full power. If a teenager can overwhelm Magneto, then Iceman can do the same as a fully grown adult that’s reached his peak.
6Isca the Unbeaten Remains Unbeaten
Magneto Couldn’t Beat Isca No Matter How Hard He Tries
For those unfamiliar with one of Marvel’s newer characters, Isca is a mutant from Arakko, Krakoa’s sister landmass. Her mutant power is literally that she cannot lose a conflict, meaning that, by definition, she can’t be beaten by anyone. That includes Magneto. If Isca and Magneto were ever to find themselves in a fight with each other, one could assume that the attempt to fight Isca is pointless because victory will always be guaranteed in her favor. Even by unlikely means, she will always be destined to defeat Magneto. Technically, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Magneto is weaker than Isca.
Magneto could, and probably does, have more raw power and strength on his side, but again, Isca’s power is that she always wins, even if she does so inexplicably. The inability to lose easily positions Isca the Unbeaten as one ofthe X-Men’s most powerful charactersin current comics.
5Magneto Can Handle the X-Men, But Not the X-Man
Nate Grey is Cable’s Age of Apocalypse Counterpart
Before Hugh Jackman confidently assured movie viewers that he was the X-Man inDeadpool and Wolverine, Marvel Comics already had an X-Man of its own. The X-Man title was once adopted by Nate Grey, not to be confused with Nathaniel Summers, a.k.a. Cable (son of Scott Summers and Madelyn Pryor) of Earth-616. Instead, Nate is Scott’s son on a more technical level. In the “Age of Apocalypse” arc’s Earth-295,Nate Grey is the product of a cloning experiment from Mister Sinister made from the DNA of Cyclops and Jean Grey.
His X-Man codename is meant to illustrate his purpose as the ultimate X-Men member or the ultimate mutant weapon, viewed as mutantkind’s last hope in a post-apocalyptic future.
Nate’s already made from one-half of one of the strongest mutants to join the X-Men, and was able to tap into her advanced telepath capabilities quickly. AsMarvel’s most powerful mutant, his mastery over telekensis with ease has positioned him as a god-tier mutant who can manipulate reality itself. As powerful as Magneto is, he’s never been likened to a god.
4Vulcan is Another Summers That’s Too Much for Magneto
The Strongest X-Men Member from the Summers Household
From oneSummers family treemember to another, Gabriel Summers is the youngest brother of Cyclops and Havok. Gabe maintains total control over different forms of energy. This includes heat, radiation, light, electricity, and even magic. As an energy absorber, a fight between the two would force Magneto to think outside the box. Otherwise, Vulcan would absorb and re-direct Magneto’s electromagnetic energy right back at him. Even in a hypothetical scenario where Magneto boasts more actual power than Vulture, it’s counter-productive in a fight where Vulture can throw it all back in his general direction.
Also, keep in mind thatthis is an X-Men member who has toppled other Omega mutants in the past. He has been seen to overpower the likes of Emma Frost and even take out cosmic heroes like Adam Warlock and Gladiator. Surely, he can outmatch Magneto just the same.
3Legion’s Hero to Villain Allegiances are Complicated
But His Power Level Isn’t
Legion’s hero position depends on whether Professor X’s son, David Haller, is in the driver’s seat and under full control. Haller is a disturbed man, but not inherently evil himself. It’s his additional alternate personalities which make him evil, as evident by the 2025Giant-Size X-Men#1 one-shot and follow-upGiant-Size Dark Phoenix Saga#1. Here, as David is long dead, Legion’s collective alters are in control to become theX-Men’s most powerful villain to date. He’s made even more powerful by merging with the Phoenix entity, but even before then, he’s able to dispose of an entire army alone.
Whether he should be considered a hero or a villain is irrelevant when the bigger question is if he can beat Magneto. With or without David present, Legion would topple Magneto. He’s far too powerful for most mutants, including his father, to handle alone.
2Hope Summers
There’s something about the Summers name that the Omega X-gene seems to gravitate to. While not directly related to Cyclops, she is the X-Men leader’s adoptive granddaughter-in-law by way of time travel. It’s complicated (as seems to be the running theme with most mutants, apparently) and admittedly confusing, but something that’s easy to understand is just how powerful Hope Summers is as an Omega-level mutant. As far as her powers are understood, they know no bounds and no limitations. Hope has the ability to copy to perfection another mutant’s powers.
Depending on how many mutants are in range, Hope can harness multiple powers at once. Honestly, that’s her only limitation. If no mutants are in sight, then there’s nothing for her to mimic, butif the entire X-Men are at ringside to see her and Magneto duke it out, she’s virtually unstoppable.
1Franklin Richards is the Strongest Mutant Magneto Could Face
Back When He WAS a Mutant
Franklin Richards' mutant status is complicated, to say the least. The only son and eldest child of Sue Storm and Reed Richards always had great cosmic energy within him, and in the 80s, he was outright classified as a mutant. Then, 2020’sFantastic Four#26 by Dan Slott and R.B. Silva established that Franklin used his reality-bending powers to give himself the X-gene. As such, Franklin was no longer considered a mutant by Krakoan law.As of this writing, Franklin is not a mutant anymore, but the way comics work, that can always change.
Franklin Richards is first established as a mutant inFantastic Four#238, written and penciled by John Byrne.
Again, Franklin’s mutant status is complicated, but that doesn’t deny him his great power. Every universe frames Franklin as an all-powerful being. He’s seen to be powerful enough to not only tame Galactus, but in one universe, become Galactus. Neither theX-Mennor Magneto would stand a chance against The Fantastic Four’s prodigal son.
X-Men
The X-Men franchise, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, centers on mutants with extraordinary abilities. Led by the powerful telepath Professor Charles Xavier, they battle discrimination and villainous mutants threatening humanity. The series explores themes of diversity and acceptance through a blend of action, drama, and complex characters, spanning comics, animated series, and blockbuster films.
