Supernaturalhas the perfect villains to return assuming that it returns for a revival. The strongest villains inSupernaturalweren’t always immediately obvious, with some taking years to build in power. Through it all, the brothers at the heart of the show, played by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, maintained a tight grip on saving the world. Although they managed this numerous times, it may not be enough if Eric Kripke decides that season 16 is in order. As both Kripke and fans know, there is normally a valid reason for another season ofSupernatural.
TheSupernaturalseason 15 finalewas somehow both tragic and heartwarming at the same time, leaving definite scope for another season. While many felt that Sam and Dean Winchester deserved their happy ending — or as happy as two hunters were ever likely to get — some thought that season 15 ended anticlimactically. Having faced giant cosmic threats like Lucifer, the Winchester ended rather mundanely. Season 16 offers the chance of a redo, and strong villains will be key. Luckily, there are many villains primed to give this redo a worthy storyline.
5Jack Kline
Nephilim
PredictingSupernaturalseason 16 storylinesoften leads to Jack Kline (Alexander Calvert). This incredible character first cropped up inSupernaturalseason 8 and deserves some more screen time, as important as he was in the latter half of the show.Jack ended up in the highest position possibleinSupernaturalby its end, so he is in a position to fall far. In a way, it would be a shame to bring Jack down after his struggles.
Jack had a tough time, just like any Winchester, and he thoroughly earned his position by the season 15 finale. Transcending worries, mortality, angels, and demons, Jack ended up as God himself. A fan theory posits Godhood as more of a corrupting state than an identity. If Godhood corrupted Chuck, it could certainly corrupt Jack, which would lead to another God forSupernaturalto take down in season 16.
4The Shedim
Unknown Creatures
Supernaturalshould swap the Akrida villains for a bigger threatin season 16, andthe Shedim may be a good starting point. It may seem natural for any kind ofSupernaturalfollow-up season, reboot, or remake to utilize the villains proposed byThe Winchesters. This spinoff series introduced the Akrida, a species established by God to destroy everything if he was ever defeated.
There is lots more to unpack with the Shedim andSupernaturalseason 16 could exploit that.
This villain worked forThe Winchestersbut wasn’t up toSupernatural’shigh standard, and the show should actually look to an earlier villain for its next terrifying species.FromSupernaturalseason 13 came ominous whisperings of the Shedim, a destructive group of beings that the show never explored fully. There is lots more to unpack with the Shedim andSupernaturalseason 16 could exploit that.
3The Shadow
Primordial Entity
Castiel was unforgettably lost to the Empty, and its sinister leader would be the ideal villain for aSupernaturalseason 16, should it ever transpire.EverySupernaturalfans' favorite angel should never have died the way he did, as dramatic and brilliant as his exit from the show was. Turning to the Shadow — controller of the Empty, for season 16 could involve bringing Castiel back from the Empty.
Misha Collins played Castiel fromSupernaturalseason 4 to 15.
Given the fact that Sam and Dean Winchester had both died by the end of the final episode of the final season ofSupernatural, it’s not a given that they would return in a new season. But if they did, fans would relish the opportunity to reunite Castiel with Dean Winchester. Whether brotherly or not,Castiel’s bond with Dean deserves another look in any potentialSupernaturalseason 16.
2Death
The Pale Horseman Of The Apocalypse
Death was one ofSupernatural’sbest monster ideas, and it would be a shame not to bring him back for another arc. He was strangely likable for Death himself, with Julian Richings giving a stellar performance. This is just one reason to bring him back for season 16, if it ever happens. However, most interestingly,Death was never quite a true villain in the show. He was doing what he had to do.
Julian Richings played another mythical being associated with death - Charon, ferryman of the river Styx - inPercy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
Dean’s choice to kill Death came from a logical place, but it would be understandable if the anti-hero somehow came back from his fate to haunt the world. It wouldn’t be like Death to seek revenge, but it also wouldn’t be like him to stay dead, being the embodiment of the concept of death. Death could have gotten himself twisted into some kind of genuinely evil beast after his experience, which would make him a great villain ifSupernaturalreturned.
1Chuck Shurley (God)
Chuck may be the only functionalSupernaturalseason 16 villainamong all the interesting prospects. Becoming, by far,Supernatural’smost intriguing mystery,Chuck drove the show from early on until its last episode. This overarching plot point elevated the show above and beyond standard dark fantasy, making it a cosmic metaphor encompassing the very nature of good, evil, and creation. If any character was worthy of another season, it would be Chuck.
Supernaturalcan rely on its biggest villain to provide a continuous threat if it returns.
In his final defeat, Chuck was resigned to mortality and not very pleased about it. His desire to die instead of live an average, mortal life proved his egomania, and this trait is what keeps him a great prospect for a villain going forward. Although mortal, he may still be able to concoct disturbing plots to ensure power or entertainment.Supernaturalcan rely on its biggest villain to provide a continuous threat if it returns.
