Demon Slayer’sTanjiro Kamado stands out as a truly unique anime protagonistdue to his unwavering persistence and his empathetic approach when defeating enemies. Although there is no disputing that he is an excellent main character, many ofDemon Slayer’sside characters need more love too.

Because of the sheer number of heroes and villains inDemon Slayer, not every character’s story was given the depth and attention it warranted. These ten specifically could easily star in their own spin-offs, which could finally clear up everyone’s most burning questions that were never answered in theDemon Slayeranime.

Demon Slayer’s Shinobu readies her Nichirin sword in a forest at night.

10Shinobu Kocho

The Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kocho, is not exactly a physical powerhouse like the other Hashira, but her intelligence is unbeatable. With immense pharmaceutical knowledge, she and Tamayo teamed up to design the Anti-Kibutsuji Drug that was invaluable during the final fight with Muzan.

Demon Slayerexplores Shinobu’s devastating past briefly, but a spin-off could go into more depth regarding her relationship with her biological sister, Kanae, and her adoptive sister, Kanao, and the aftermath of Kanae’s death at the hands of Doma, the Upper Rank Two demon.

mist hashira Muichiro Tokito demon slayer

Shinobu’s final fight with Doma during the Infinity Castle arc is one ofDemon Slayer’smost emotionally charged battles because he was Kanae’s killer, and the clash concluded tragically. An anime focused primarily on her could offer more tense fight scenes that reveal Shinobu’s one-of-a-kind battle style.

9Muichiro Tokito

At only fourteen years old, it is remarkable how advanced Muichiro Tokito became. The Swordsmith Village arc unveiled the Mist Hashira’s painful past, involving the loss of both of his parents and eventually, his twin brother, Yuichiro. Because of the extent of his trauma, he temporarily developed amnesia.

Hiswork as a Hashira helped Muichiro growboth physically and emotionally, and he eventually remembered and confronted his difficult past, finally beginning to process it. A Muichiro anime could explore his close relationship with his twin Yuichiro, and further reveal the many challenges the Mist Hashira faced while working to become a demon slayer at such a young age.

8Obanai Iguro

Out of all theDemon SlayerHashira,Obanai’s backstory is by far the most difficultto stomach. His childhood was a sorrowful time filled with abuse, as he was terrorized by the Snake Demon his family worshipped, trapped in a cage, and nearly sacrificed before he could escape.

Obanai’s strength in every way is admirable. His swordsmanship, Serpent Breathing, and the help of his loyal snake, Kaburamaru, aided him in becoming a valiant protector of others, ensuring that fewer people fall victim to the same type of demons who made his life miserable when he was a child.

Demon Slayer - close up of Giyu

Despite being one ofDemon Slayer’smost well-written heroes and one of the strongest Hashira, he does not always receive as much screentime as other characters. An anime centered primarily on the Serpent Hashira could rectify this issue and increase viewers' appreciation for one ofDemon Slayer’smost underrated heroes.

7Giyu Tomioka

Because of traumatic experiences in his past, Giyu Tomioka is fairly reserved. His introversion became extremely evident during the Hashira Training arc, when he refused to participate until Tanjiro convinced him otherwise. Giyu is not withdrawn for no reason, he struggles with survivor’s guilt after his sister, Tsutako, and best friend, Sabito, were murdered by demons.

Because of his quietness and tendency to hide in the shadows of other more bubbly, talkative Hashira, Giyu is more mysterious than most ofDemon Slayer’scharacters. A spin-off anime for Giyu would give this independent Hashira the limelight for once, and the chance to show off his magnificent Water Breathing even more.

Demon Slayer’s Zenitsu holding his sword

6Zenitsu Agatsuma

Since he is one of Tanjiro’s best friends,Zenitsu plays a crucial role inDemon Slayer, but he is still often misunderstood and mischaracterized. At the beginning ofDemon Slayer,Zenitsu is unbearably nervous and experiences terrified outbursts anytime a demon crosses his path, which is hardly an ideal situation for someone whose job is demon slaying.

Zenitsu is far more than a coward or comic relief character, and by the final arcs of the series, he transforms into an unrecognizable warrior. In the Infinity Castle, he leverages his mighty Thunder Breathing against Kaigaku, the demon who caused Zenitsu’s cherished master, Jigoro Kuwajima, to die.

Demon Doma sitting in Demon Slayer anime

When the situation demands it, Zenitsu morphs into the bravest person in the room. The Infinity Castle arc includes some of Zenitsu’smost admirable scenes, and a spin-off could explore this confident, no-nonsense part of his personality more than the anime ever did.

5Doma

Although his smiling face and charisma could fool even the most perceptive person, Doma is one ofDemon Slayer’sstrongest, most evil demons. At Upper Rank Two, only one member of the Twelve Kizuki is above him, and he even has an entire cult who devotedly follow him, known as the Eternal Paradise Faith.

Doma’s character is one ofDemon Slayer’smost intriguing because although on the surface, he seems incredibly expressive, he does not feel emotions or empathy. He misleads his cult followers, promising them freedom from their struggles and pain, only to take advantage of that vulnerability and end their lives.

The Flame Hashira Rengoku with a wild look in his eyes in Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

When Doma kills, he views it as setting that person free from strife, rather than acknowledging the harm he is causing. He is a dark, twisted character below his cheerful facade, and a Doma spin-off anime could further explore how he became a cult leader and his interactions with the loyal followers he deceives.

4Kyojuro Rengoku

Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku exemplifies a courage that few people could ever dream of possessing. During his final fight with Akaza, even the Upper Rank Three demon had to acknowledge not just Rengoku’s physical power, but his absolute unwillingness to surrender, even when it became evident that fighting any further would cost Rengoku his life.

Rengoku’s time inDemon Slayeris disappointingly brief. The primary arc starring him, the Mugen Train arc, is one ofDemon Slayer’smost adored storylines, causing theMugen Trainmovie to become the highest-grossing anime filmof all time, a title it still holds today, four years later.

Inosuke clinging to the ceiling Demon Slayer Anime

Without Rengoku’s continual advice and tear-jerking sacrifice, Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu may not have survived, or become the accomplished heroes they blossomed into. Such an important character in theDemon Slayeruniverse no doubt deserves his own anime filled with more epic moments, fearless fights, and words of wisdom.

3Inosuke Hashibira

Inosuke’s cocky attitude and humorous quips are only part of his multifaceted personality. His Beast Breathing is not only high-powered, it is completely his own, because he invented it. Growing up raised by wild boars, Inosuke learned quickly to fend for himself and developed keen fighting instincts.

His childhood in the mountains living among animals, his mother Kotoha’s death by Doma’s hands, and his father’s abuse that led him and his mother to Doma’s cult are all briefly touched on in the final chapters ofDemon Slayer, but these details of Inosuke’s past could be expanded upon in a spin-off series.

Yoriichi Tsugikuni looks forward in Demon Slayer

Inosuke has dealt with extreme pain and loss, but in many parts ofDemon Slayer,he is often viewed as merely a hilarious, strong character. He is funny and muscular no doubt, but an anime solely about Inosuke could finally unfold the true complexities of this Boar Breathing hero.

2Yoriichi Tsugikuni

Yoriichi Tsugikuni barely appears inDemon Slayer, since he was dead for centuries by the time the anime began. Although he only appears in the anime in flashbacks, his role is still integral because he wasthe inventor of Breathing Stylesand the very first Demon Slayer, paving the way for his successors.

Yoriichi also invented Sun Breathing, or Hinokami Kagura, which Tanjiro later uses. In many ways, Yoriichi laid the foundation for other Demon Slayers to continue the difficult work he started protecting humanity from demons. Even after his death, he is still revered asthe strongest demon slayer to ever live.

Akaza in Infinity Castle

Demons quake at the mention of Yoriichi’s name centuries after his passing, which is a concrete piece of evidence towards the impact he had on both humanity and demons. Little is known about Yoriichi, but he shaped demon slaying as a profession and saved so many lives, so an anime about him would be nothing short of legendary.

1Akaza

Akaza may be a demon, but he is arguably the most morally complex of all the series' demons. His human life was marred by agony. When the dojo owner, Keizo, who raised Akaza after his father’s death, and Keizo’s daughter, Koyuki, were killed, Akaza witnessed how cruel humanity could be and this sent him down an evil path himself.

As a demon, Akaza ironically became the wickedness he hated in the world. In life, he fought hard to be a good person and protect those he loved, but his demon transformation shifted his ambition and he began to relentlessly chase after power at all costs.

Akaza’s death is one ofDemon Slayer’ssaddestbecause of his genuine remorse and regret. An Akaza anime could further explore his backstory and the events that led him to become one ofDemon Slayer’smost complicated, tragic demons.
